2.0 out of 5 stars A work in progress, February 21, 2008
This review is from: CCNA Exam Cram (Exam 640-802) (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
While I am a big fan of the exam-cram series, this is a let down. It still has all the information summarized as much as possible without losing detail but the errors are simply appalling.
As the 640-801 exam has been retired in favour of the 640-802 exam, it seems that the publishers, writers (or whoever) decided to quickly rewrite the previous edition with a few updates and get it out as quick as possible. It seems a shame that they couldnt delay its release by a few weeks and proof read it. Wrong diagrams, missing diagrams and some explanations that are just plain wrong are amongst the errors. Probably most frustrating are the review questions with the wrong diagrams or answers displayed.
Do not use this book without having plenty of other Cisco material handy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good material shame about the abysmal mistakes!, February 2, 2008
This review is from: CCNA Exam Cram (Exam 640-802) (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
Being the Third Edition, you would expect this book to have cleared up the mistakes found in the Second Edition, instead it compounds it beyond belief. Someone should have read this book before publishing it, because it is letdown badly by awful mistakes, it becomes a case of spot the errors on every page. You even have entire chapters repeated later on in the book, so you end up reading the same material as you read a few pages ago.

The test questions, though most of them good are letdown by more mistakes. It's a shame really as the book is pretty decent, just needed someone to proof-read it.

Would I advise you to buy this book? Yes, because it's a good test to spot the mistakes!! makes you think harder, and you should use this book just to test yourself before taking the exam, make sure you have a proper Cisco CCNA book before taking the exam.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice summary and overview of the exam, March 24, 2010
By Marie Mcallister (Portland, OR USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: CCNA Exam Cram (Exam 640-802) (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
I'm a little disconcerted to read the negative reviews; I still haven't taken the test yet and it's worrisome that there are mistakes in this book that I may not even notice, since I'm a noob.

I'm part of the way through and really appreciate how well topics are organized and succinctly summed up. I've taken a CCNA course at our local university extension program, I have some old routers to play on, and a couple of other Lammle books. I do think that the CCNA study guide by Lammle (I have the 5th edition) is full of helpful info, but not great for people new to the field. I was rather lost until I took a class.

I think the Exam Cram book is great to give you a broad overview on everything CCNA related that you may have studied elsewhere, and a good review for topics you may not be completely clear on. It's also a quick and easy read, and portable... unlike the huge Lammle guide!
