We've got both this book and Rick Steves', and have also read a lot online, in preparation for a trip later this year. I can't yet vouch for the accuracy of this book, but I can say that it seems much more complete than Steves' and I like the Fodor's organization better.

I guess it depends on how much detail you want. I often hear that we need to see some particular thing in Ireland and Rick Steves' book doesn't mention it. He leaves out towns like Limerick entirely. Someone said we need to see Malahide Castle; Malahide gets nary a mention. Nor does he mention the Slieve League cliffs, the tallest cliffs in Ireland. The Steves book is more manageable in size than the Fodor's, but clearly by leaving a lot of stuff out.

Perhaps it's just personality. If you want a reference book, Fodor's is clearly better. If you want just the greatest hits of Ireland travel, Steves' book works fine.

This is a very complete and concise travel guide! I can hardly wait to put it into use. Lovely photographs of a really lovely country. I am really enjoying the descriptions of places, things and food! Just wish it were a little bit lighter since I am going to be traveling with only a overhead carry-on and a large purse. Oh well, it is the price one pays for a exciting vacation in a new place.
Fodor's always does a great job in covering all the expected and unexpected aspects of traveling.

UPDATE October 2015: We have spent almost three weeks in Ireland and still have a few days to go. One huge piece of advice be sure and purchase the HERITAGE CARD. It was 10Euros each for Seniors and has paid for itself over and over.

UPDATE: We are presently using this book in Ireland and have found it spot on. Site descriptions in Dublin were concise and well done. Restaurant recommendations were appreciated.

We are planning our own driving tour (three weeks) next September in Ireland and purchased this book along with the Rick Steves' Ireland book. We always use more than one and sketch out our proposed tour, then fill in what we want to see using multiple books. This Fodor's book is well laid out and easy to use. The pictures are great.

Lots of new info and good tour trip suggestions. Left out a few lovely towns and stops, but, on the whole, a good buy.

This book provided so much, rich content. We often pulled off the highway to explore what Fodor's Ireland 2015 recommended in the area, from sites to restaurants and hotels. We covered 1,000 miles in 7 days and could not have done it without this book!

This is a well written book. There are so many ideas of what to do in Ireland and so many great suggestions and side notes. The map in the back really solidifies this as well. I was exceptionally happy we bought this.

I found out about so many things in Ireland that I never knew before. I will be going there on my second trip soon and have noted all the places from this book that I want to visit. Worth the money!

Far superior to Frommers guide. Bought both; ended up using the Foders almost exclusively after the first couple of days. The map is also far superior to the Frommers map, including an excellent map of Dublin.
