A metal feast for the eyes!

"Form follows function" is certainly not a twentieth century concept and this is clearly demonstrated in this lavishly illustrated book.

Both Dave Edge and Toby Capwell form a duo of authoritative scholarship.

Dr. Capwell is not just a passionate scholar (he is a museum curator of arms and armour), but he has literally jousted in suits of armor just as these depicted here--full 16th-century "harness" made to exacting historical specifications. His competitions are not mere theatrical choreography--they are real hard-hitting tilts and melees as those in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

Many pieces such as these were parade armor, show pieces worn by princes and kings, but the artisanship and creativity of the armorers craft is astounding.

The armet (visored helmet) on the front cover of this book is only a glimpse at what waits inside.

This book is a must for all lovers of Medieval arms and armor, and the lover of the decorative arts.

covers several of the major groups of armor makers, great photos but more as a basic introduction to the groups

Amazing pieces, great photos, crisp detail, excellent print quality. Easily worth the cover price. Perhaps a bit heavier on armor than arms, but good armor reference of this quality is harder to find. Those arms that are included are distinctive and every bit as well-presented as the armor.

Amazing book.

An excelent aromor reference

This is an absolutely stunning book, whose photography is on par with much more expensive reference books. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of five is that the title is misleading. This is primarily a book on armor with only a few arms sprinkled in.
