Product Description

Mormon's Book is a readers edition of The Book of Mormon typeset in paragraph form. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe the Book of Mormon to be an account of God's dealings with some of the ancient inhabitants of the American continent who were among the "other sheep" that Jesus was referring to when he said: "And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd" (John 10:16).

5.0 out of 5 stars Why is Harry Potter so much easier to read than the Book of Mormon?, July 8, 2008
When the new Harry Potter books were coming out, my family would often have them read within a few days of being released to the public. Sometimes even reading the entire book in a single day. The thing is, the Book of Mormon and the later Harry Potter books are about the same number of pages, yet it takes us like a year to read Book of Mormon. Why the difference?

Of course there are all sorts of differences between Scripture and a novel. A novel carries the same plot from beginning to end. 1 Nephi has a single plot yet 2 Nephi jumps around with different authors and no real "story". In some instances, an entire subject is covered in just a few sentences.

But as I think about it, part of the problem seems to be the way books are divided into chapters. As I read, I read a chapter at a time. In a Harry Potter book, the entire book will encompass 30 or so chapters while the Book of Mormon has over 200 for a similar span of pages.

This edition of the Book of Mormon removes the chapters and verses, leaving just the text formatted in a familiar way. Now as I read my natural chapter-at-a-time pace, I can read many pages as in a single sitting, which has allowed me to see connections between the various chapters that I had always missed reading single chapters.

While having a copy of the Book of Mormon divided into chapters and verses is important, reading it without this markers makes it easier to keep reading. Take for example King Benjamin's speech. It spans multiple chapters in Mosiah yet was delivered in a single address. By removing the chapters, it is easier to read it as a single sitting, just as it was given.

I would recommend this book for anyone seeking to find a new perspective on their understanding of the Book of Mormon.
