Editorial Reviews

Product Description

"Written for Parents of young children to teenagers, this book shares the joys and outcomes of our vital priority-keeping our children's hearts. Rebellion and immorality are common among teens even within the Christian community. Does Scripture offer any path of hope for more than this for our children? What can parents do to direct children toward godliness rather than worldliness? When does this process begin? What is the cost? Steven and Teri Maxwell believe the key factors in raising children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4) are whether or not the parents have their children's hearts and what they are doing with those hearts. Keeping Our Children's Hearts offers direction and encouragement on this critically important topic."

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for the christian family, December 13, 2007
I love this book. It has changed the way I view my parenting. They brought up some topics that I had never even gave much thought to. My husband and I are praying to see how God wants us to apply some of their ideas to our family. One thing I love about the Maxwell's is they never say this is the way and the only way. Their desire is to give you an example of what they do and encourage you to seek the Lord for His direction in your family. They have lots of wisdom to offer many new and seasoned families. They have home schooled 8 children. Oldest is 27 all the way to the youngest of 10years. I would recommend this book to any family longing to really keep the hearts of their children and be used by God as a family to touch the lives of so many.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Much Sheltering, February 3, 2009
This book contains excellent parenting ideas; however, I think the Maxwells advocate a degree of sheltering that is unhealthy and unnecessary. As the authors point out, all parents shelter their children to some degree -- if not, they should. But at some point, our children must learn how to deal with real world problems before they are adults tossed out into the world. And in order for Christians to let their lights shine as Jesus commanded, they will have to exist in the "dark" world. There are ways to protect our children's hearts and at the same time gradually allow them to become independent and not "cut the chord" all at once. The biggest mistake I see in raising faithful children is parents who either don't teach their children what God expects of them and/or doesn't explain why they should do or not do certain things. If children are taught WHY they should behave a certain way, they will more likely be able to resist worldly pressures to conform.
