Editorial Reviews

Review
The positive energy just jumps out of those pages. Looking forward to reading more stories about Rascal and his companions. --Captain Pawel N.

This book could easily become an animated movie. If that happens, I‘ll be first in line. --Tom (22 year old)

Product Description
Rascal, the cat, loves adventure. In fact, he lives for that. He will spend eight of his nine lives looking for adventure. He lives with a gang of other cats in a white wooden house with a big garden and a view of mountains. Rascal is also a writer. He records his adventures in a diary. Some of his explorations are true, some imaginary, but all of them are fascinating. Rascal will touch your soul and heart. The storytelling challenges a child's imagination while teaching him – in a fun and exciting way – a lesson or two about real life values.

4.0 out of 5 stars FURRY FRIENDS OUT ON THE TOWN, October 27, 2005

You don't have to be a feline fancier to thoroughly enjoy the adventures of Rascal and his pals as they venture into the great world seeking freedom. You see, Grandma Cat has whetted their taste for seeing more than their comfortable home with her stories of when she was young - "...her tall tales of sleeping in the rubbish can and under the stars, about the fancy Ball that the cats used to organize two times a year."

Cats can be very much like humans at this point, not realizing what a good life they have but wanting more. In addition, they pay no heed to how very much their owners care about them and just how worried they would be if the cats disappeared.

Off they go with Rascal in the lead looking for all the wonders that Grandma Cat had described. Of course, they find a great deal more than they bargained for and probably even more than Grandma had experienced. But, that's what the story is all about.

Enjoy as these furry friends encounter new pals, old enemies, and learn a great deal.

- Gail Cooke

4.0 out of 5 stars A Cat-Lover's Coming-of-Age Story, March 14, 2006
When children begin to near their teenage years, they are fascinated by stories about travel, adventure and becoming independent. Make the story about those perpetual wanderers, our feline friends, and you've got a winner.

Reading this book reminded me of the 20 plus times that my daughter wanted to see Cats on Broadway.

Now that Cats has closed, you're lucky to have Why Some Cats Are Rascals to entertain your youngsters.

The book contains two stories: Quest for Freedom and Enchanted Forest. The former deals with the dangers of the unchaperoned world while making home look pretty good compared to being totally on one's own. It's a mini Huckleberry Finn. The latter is the kind of make-believe that everyone who enjoyed The Wizard of Oz loves.

Both stories are filled with lessons that all parents will approve of.

The book's main drawback for younger children is that it doesn't contain very many illustrations. I hope the author will consider creating a second version of each story for those in the age 3-6 set. I'm sure they'll love it . . . especially if they have lovely cats in their home or neighborhood to help spark their imaginations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun read for all ages, December 3, 2005
By Ziggy "Zig Zigler" (Vancouver, B.C. Canada) - See all my reviews
This is one of those books that can be enjoyed by readers of all ages. The only drawback for adults who read this book - is that you will find it such an enjoyable and easy read that you'll be done and wanting more before you know it. I look forward to more Rascally adventures from this author.
