5.0 out of 5 stars Precious HD audio book, August 24, 2008
By Gary Li (Portland, OR, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a rare, if not sole, book about HD audio.
HD Audio has replaced AC97 since early 2000, and gradually dominanted audio technology in PC industry. However, the books about this topic are still hard to find. MSDN is almost the sole resource for the people working in this field.
The author has profound knowledge about PC audio technologies and history, also a lot of hands-on experience in windows audio driver stack. This book covers the audio basic knowledge, HD audio architecture, both audio HW and SW implementation, and windows audio stack in both XP and Vista (Vista has dramatically re-shaped the audio stack).
The book even covers the HDMI technology, a feature the new PCs (in the past half year) adopted, but still under fast improvement.
It is a must-have book if you want to learn digial audio technologies, and especially the HD audio for windows.
I Strongly wish the publishers may work out more books in this topic.
