Product Description

A COMPLETE GUIDE Recommended for Ages 15 and Older This book explains how to start and operate your own lawn mowing business: It shows the easiest ways to get customers . . . How to set prices . . . How to make the most income per hour of work . . . How to keep a simple schedule and much more . . . Tells you everything you need to know . . . * * *When done on a part-time basis, there are no tight schedules. Grass can be cut at your own convenience, without interfering with other activities. Grass grows and work is available during three seasons of the year. There is practically no investment if you already have a mower. Expected earnings can be three to four times higher than the minimum wage rate of pay, sometimes much more.

About the Author

The author is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, with a B.S. Degree (cum laude) in Electrical Engineering. He was employed with GE Aerospace Industries, 30 years, where he enjoyed a wide variety of responsibilities. He was a Design Engineer; a Systems Engineer; a Test-Berth Director; a Cost Analyst; and he held several business development and management positions. He also was the GE Rep to the International Society of Parametric Analyst (ISPA), a prestigious, high-level, corporate appointment to do international analyses and reporting work for both the U.S. Government and GE-related enterprises (associated with the Department of Defense). During his last 15-years of employment he worked on advanced plans and programs and authored many documents for GE and the U.S. Government. In his private life, he and his wife, Janice, raised three children. The children (Michael, John and Angela) were raised with a sense of knowing what it is to be in their own business. Each of them had their own paper routes. They also shared in a night-crawler sales business and in a business of selling U.S. postage stamps in vending machines in 11 local retail stores. This eventually led to his son John, at age 14, wanting to start a lawn-mowing business. After four years of effort to perfect John's business, and to track and record all the data, this book was written.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is geared towards what the lawn care industry calls "scrubs". The author's suggested methods of getting to the jobs? Walk, or put your 20" push mower in the back of your station wagon. Money saving advice? Use your customers lawn mower! This book is full of bad advice for anyone truly wanting a legitimate lawn care business. No metion is ever made of figuring overhead expenses, insurance, or any of the other day to day business concerns. There are better books out there for starting a lawn service. Lawn Care & Gardening A Down To Earth Guide To The Business By Mickey Willis is much more in depth and benefitial to someone wanting to break into the biz. If your 12 years old, and can borrow your parents mower, you might like this book. DO NOT buy this book thinking you will start a business.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, May 27, 2005
Easy read with very simple instructions on how to be sucessful at a mowing business. I read this at a library, however I did just notice there is a more up to date version, but only available as an electronic book at greenfromgreen.com. I found this book like a handbook that filled my wallet. I recommend it without reservation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for a start up in business! Or refinement of existing., April 3, 2006
The paperback is a little dated, however on greenfromgreen.com you can get the 2006 version. I found this updated version to be much more helpful. Thanks for the tip OLDSAGE it has helped me lots.
Who would think I can get my execise and make money at the same time. Great book that any lawn care professional would want to ban in his area least he face stiff competition. It takes complex buisness planning and simplifies them for the average reader.
