Product Description

Many people who love horses describe them as having a subtle, intuitive knowing -- what writer and equine pioneer Linda Kohanov calls black horse wisdom, "wisdom shrouded in mystery, wisdom that's felt more deeply than can ever be explained."

In this powerful follow-up to her groundbreaking work The Tao of Equus, Kohanov introduces new, provocative theories about the human-horse connection, theories supported by in-depth evidence from the round pen. "Horses," she maintains, "model an embodied spirituality, one that is both fully present in this world and deeply connected to the soul's divine origins." Kohanov explores how these animals support us on both levels, leading us to unexpected realizations about fear, intuition, awareness, empowerment, and above all, authenticity.

Riding between the Worlds not only continues Kohanov's amazing personal journey of transformation with her herd, it also relates numerous anecdotes of equine-facilitated healing, coupled with lucid explanations of the processes behind them. These stories demonstrate the undeniable connections that people and horses around the world are increasingly recognizing. They document the profound changes that emerge as taboos against treating animals as equals break down.

From intimate stories of cathartic breakthroughs in the saddle, to the moving tale of the birth of the newest member of Kohanov's herd, Riding between the Worlds presents a daring multidisciplinary exploration of the powerful spiritual, emotional, and psychological lessons horses embody. It delivers another tour de force from one of the equine world's most insightful writers, teachers, and trainers.

From the Inside Flap

"In this stunning work, Linda Kohanov explores a powerful and exciting brand of therapy: one where the patients are two-legged but the psychiatrists have hooves! Linda examines the fascinating interchanges and psychological growth that can occur when we honor horses as our teachers and healers. Her revelations are breathtaking and her writing is sterling. This landmark work is not just a celebration for horse lovers, but for all animal lovers everywhere. Read it and treasure it!"
— Amelia Kinkade, author of Straight from the Horse's Mouth: How to Talk to Animals and Get Answers

"Linda has the courage to go beyond the limits of our current beliefs in order to help all beings. These conceptual and experiential stretches are just what we need in these challenging times. Cherish her insights into the remarkable healing connections with our Kindred Spirits and allow them to transform you. Read, learn, and blossom!"
— Allen M. Schoen, MS, DVM, author of Kindred Spirits: How the Remarkable Bond between Humans and Animals Can Change the Way We Live

"Daring, deep, and right on target. Kohanov's work with horses and healing may be startling and challenging to many mainstream horsetrainers and psychotherapists, but it is a head-nodding, knee-slapping affirmation to those who have experienced — over and over again — the astounding potential of the human-animal relationship. Beautifully done!"
— Susan Chernak McElroy, author of Animals As Teachers and Healers

"Linda Kohanov has done every human a favor by helping us build a bridge of equality and respect between ourselves and another species. Interspecies dialogue — the opening she gives us — I hope we all can pass through. Certainly every highly sensitive person will be glad to know the highly sensitive horse. If you love horses and have inherited a vein of sensitivity, you must read her books."
— Elaine N. Aron, Ph.D., author of The Highly Sensitive Person

"Linda Kohanov shares compelling stories from the world of horse-and-human relationships — stories that can help each of us rediscover the intelligence of our hearts, and reconnect to our native ability to converse in the universal language of authentic emotions. Linda's empathy, dedication, and deep respect for animals — not as pets or trophies, but as friends and mentors — shines through every page."
— Karla McLaren, author of Emotional Genius: Discovering the Deepest Language of the Soul

"For those who have not discovered the synchronicities of the human-equine world, Riding between the Worlds provides a profound opening of that window — well worth the trip."
— C. Norman Shealy, MD, Ph.D., founding president of the American Holistic Medical Association

5.0 out of 5 stars Remembering a love of horses, April 26, 2004
By "hollyfitz" (Atlanta, GA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Riding Between the Worlds: Expanding Our Potential Through the Way of the Horse (Hardcover)
Reading this book and the Tao of Equus got me back to riding again. I've always loved horses, but felt that I was too old, too out of shape, too inept. Reading these books and absorbing the wisdom made me get out of my chair and start lessons again. So here I am, over 50, trotting around a ring escorted by mostly 12 and 13 year olds, who are far better than me, loving every minute of it.
The way Linda Kohanov researched this subject was very apparent in the way she was able to present other people's work, such as
Karla McLaren's theories on emotions. She tied it all together for me. For anyone who wants to learn to be real, authentic, and loving..this is your book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read even if you are not a horse person!, May 6, 2004
By robert e marchand (glastonbury, CT United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Riding Between the Worlds: Expanding Our Potential Through the Way of the Horse (Hardcover)
One of a few books everyone in the world needs to read!
Riding Between The Worlds offers true deep healing through the way of the horse.

People dream of a world of Peace, a world of Healing, a world of Love; Linda is one of the light workers that is creating and living in that world today. She guides, assists, and holds the sacred space for others to transform. The world we all long for in our hearts, whether or not we are consciously aware of it.

My heart opens to Linda, for the personal healing and feelings brought forth in me! (aaah to actually "feel" my feelings, what an experience!). My love of horses rekindled, I now see them for the magnificent beings of deep wisdom they are.
With my hands on my heart and tears of joy, I send my gratitude to Linda and all her four legged and two legged healers.

Robert E Marchand

5.0 out of 5 stars Riding Between the Worlds, March 8, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Riding Between the Worlds: Expanding Our Potential Through the Way of the Horse (Hardcover)
Once again, Linda has done an excellent job of discribing the nuances of the horse/human dynamic. Linda skillfully describes how our thoughts, fears and emotions influence our relationships with both horses and humans. Riding Between the Worlds is a must-read for anyone who wants to develop subtle communication skills with horses. I found this book to be more instructional than The Tao of Equus. In this book she not only breaks out key elements, but also provides helpful charts in the appendix, which are good resources and references.
