Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

For many crafters, the proliferation of craft shows presents an opportunity to do enjoyable work while making money. However, the craft business is like any other small business, with all the pitfalls. Kadubec, who with his wife ran a successful business selling baskets at shows for several years, here gives us the benefit of his experience. In the chatty, anecdotal style usual in this type of guide, he emphasizes good business practice as it relates to dealing with customers, pricing, and presentation in the show booth. There is a lot of behind-the-scenes information about applying to shows and dealing with promoters. For its realistic picture of today's craft business, this is an excellent selection for public libraries.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wealth of information for anyone in the Craft show scene., October 2, 2000
By Grant Libramento (Tryon, NC United States) - See all my reviews

If you want to get the equivalent of an immediate 17 years of experience in the craft show industry, read this book. Phil Kadubec has given us the straight talk and advice to help us avoid the usual costly mistakes. This book is a must-read for anyone contemplating entering the craft show scene. Every aspect of the business is covered with self-effacing honesty, wit and wisdom. I thought the sections on designing a booth, and dealing with customers were particularly good.

4.0 out of 5 stars good, in-depth advice and instruction on starting a craft business, November 25, 2006
By Matthew the Raven (Wisconsin) - See all my reviews

I read this book along with some others on the subject because I'm considering starting to participate as a vendor in craft shows, and I found this book to be very helpful. It dosen't sugar-coat anything, giving a lot of detail about everything involved in the craft business, even the difficult parts of it. It's kindof a wake-up call for anyone like myself who held a rather romantic notion of the business. I think that for anyone thinking about doing craft shows, this eary-to-read volume would be very helpful.
