I LOVE this book. I use it with my 4th grade students during writing workshop to introduce the idea of writing about a small moment. I also refer to Little Bird during our schoolyard field guide work. The text speaks for itself...just read it.

Some days are different.
One could almost believe that one day is just like another.
But some have something a little more.
Nothing much.
Just a small thing.
Tiny.
Most of the time we don't notice these things.
Because the little things are not made to be noticed.
They are there to be discovered.
When we take time to look for them...
the small things appear.
Here or there.
Tiny.
But suddenly so present...
they seem enormous.
The small things are treasures.
True treasures.
There are no greater treasures than the little things.
One is enough to enrich the moment.
Just one is enough to change the world.

I first "read" the book to my 3 year old son by talking through the pictures - I didn't realize that the text was there until half way through because it isn't on every page. He loved the book, wanted to talk about it and then asked me to reread it to him several times. The second time, I actually read the text and I fell in love with the beautiful message of the book - which reads like a poem. Highly recommended. It has become a favorite for both of us!

I borrowed at a local library and read it to my 17 months son and he loved it!
He loves any book with a car and he goes "brrrrr" (car sound) whenever I read this book.
He even imitates the flying action. It is so cute.
The story is simple, but it has very powerful message.
It almost made me cry.
This is one of the books that will be cherished for a long time.

I'm completely in love with this book. The art is beautiful, and the story reads like poetry. I work at a library, and as soon as it came in from cataloging, I knew I had to have it, even though I don't have kids.

This is a book for all ages! Its almost wordless pages are bright with color and meaning. The expressions on the faces of man and tiny bird are priceless, and the love expressed by the surprise ending will bring a smile and warm any heart. A great gift book!

This exquisite picture book must be savored slowly. Each page is simple and as the pages are turned the reader (few words in print but many in your mind) sees a story unfolding between the truck driving man and a small bird he finds in the back. I won't spoil the plot but it is transformative. It makes the point that kindness in small ways and for small things can change everything. WONDERFUL book.

I love whimsical, silly books. So LITTLE BIRD is perfect for me. It's the story of a man and some birds and it touches base with reality only at the beginning, which is fine with me and most small fry.

The artwork is great for little children. It's bold and colorful, with big slabs of blue sky, yellow ground, and red truck. As for text, there isn't much. And, in fact, you could use this book as if it was WORDLESS.

**We talk about the story**

The story is deceptively simple. A man drives to a cliff at the end of a road and parks his big red panel truck. He opens the doors and a pretty large flock of beautiful, exotic birds fly away. The man is about to shut the doors when he notices that someone's still inside. It's a little black bird . The man tries to get him join the others but the bird isn't interested, so they share a sandwich and some time together.

And that's where the true magic begins. Because as wise children and mommies know, "There are no greater treasures than the little things"

**We stop talking about specifics**

This is a beautiful little book that addresses the very important point that there can be great value in little things. And that wonder and magic can enter your life in unexpected ways.

We really liked this book at my house.

The colors and pictures are fabulous and the story is simple and warm. My four-year old granddaughter doesn't quite understand the story yet but she loves looking at the book and having it read to her.
