Review

"The book is dynamite! Brother, you have done your research. I have never read anything like that about the Nation in my life. You have captured the history and it is a beautiful book." --Eye God, Original Blood Brother and member of the Harlem 6

"This book is the first definitive work on the Five Percenters. It's a great read, thoroughly researched and well written. When you pick it up you can't put it down. It's a great work." --Allah B., Executive Director of The Allah School In Mecca (5% National Headquarters)

Is it a street gang of gun-runners, dope dealers, thieves and miscreants, or is it a youth group teaching Black pride to inner city youth? Is it an unofficial offshoot of the Nation of Islam, or a special forces Black Op? Is it a social group created to unify and spread the teachings of Islam to all those in need of knowledge, or simply a trendy cultural anachronism responsible for certain aspects of hip hop terminology? Much is said regarding the Five Percenters a youth movement founded in Harlem in the mid-1960s. However, most of what is heard is uniformed opinion, speculation and rumor. Wakeel Allah, an insider and scholar within the Five Percenters, has written the most thorough and comprehensive treatment of this story of Clarence 13X Smith (a.k.a. Allah, a.k.a. The Father) and the origin of the Five Percenters. At a total of 438 pages and with 432 reference notes, the book may appear somewhat intimidating, but it can be read and enjoyed no matter what level of previous knowledge exists in the reader s mind regarding the subject. Ashahed Muhammad, of the Final Call Newspaper. --The Final Call Newspaper

Product Description

In The Name Of Allah: A History of Clarence 13X and The Five Percenters is the first definitive history every written about this powerful youth movement. Thousands of young Blacks and Latinos have pledged allegiance to the philosophy of the Five Percenters. Their influence has permeated throughout the streets of urban America, the school system, rap music and the penal institutions. The origins of the Five Percenters can be traced to its founder the late Clarence 13X Smith a.k.a. "Allah." A former member of Elijah Muhammad's Nation of Islam, he studied under Minister Malcolm X at the Harlem Mosque in the early 60's. He left the organization and subsequently founded a youth movement based on the core doctrine of the NOI and his own lessons referred to as "Supreme Mathematics" and "Supreme Alphabets." The name and ideology of the Five Percenters are derived from NOI teachings that describe the population into three categories. The 85% are misled to believe in a "mystery god," the 10% teach lies to master the poor and superstitious, and alas the 5% are the "poor righteous teachers" of "freedom, justice and equality" who teach that the true and living God is the "Black Man of Asia." During his short reign as leader of the Five Percenters, Clarence 13X (Allah) faced many challenges but accomplished many objectives. Unfortunately in June of 1969, he was gunned down by unknown assassins. He left a legacy of countless youth who embraced the concepts of the Five Percenters which are evident in the conscious youth of today that identify with his teachings. Until now, there has yet to be a comprehensive history written in regard to the man called Allah and the Five Percenters. This information has now been compiled and presented as an anthology by a member of the movement over the past 25 years. "In The Name of Allah: A History of Clarence 13X and the Five Percenters" is a must have for anyone who desires to know more about the controversial movement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scholarly and Comprehensive History, July 6, 2007
Peace! I come in the name of Born Magnetic Allah. I have been a memeber of the Five Percent Nation of Islam (5%) since 1986. I have come across awesome pieces of information during that period of time and have interacted with many who have walked with the founder of the 5% Nation, Allah. There is a RICH history (both written and oral) that I know of and have in my posession written by many over the years, b.u.t. there was nothing (to my knowlege) which compacted all of that into one book, until now. I have never come across a more scholorly and indepth work detailing the rich history of the 5% Nation, until I read this book. From the Root to the Fruit, this book covers it all. It has the transcript of an interview Allah did in 1967, so you get to read for yourself and get a glimpse into the thinking of the man who Fathered a Nation. It details the history of our Flag, our intimate involvement in the STOPPING of a riot in Harlem in 1968 when Dr. Martin Luther King was murdered. It covers the POSITIVE opinion of the Hon. Elijah Muhammad on the 5% Nation, and much, much more. This is not just a book for the "insiders" such as myself, b.u.t. this book is also for those who may have heard a snippet here and there over the years, or who may have no knowledge at all of the 5% Nation; this book is for you. An easy read, that is very difficult to put down.

Peace to the God, Wakeel Allah for documenting our history in a manner worthy of the Supreme Intelligence that produced this Nation.
Peace!

Out of all our methods of study, history is best qualified and most attractive to reward our research. Especially when that history can be verified with empirical evidence and eyewitness testimony. This was perhaps the most objective, well documented and expansive history on the poor righteous teachers that has been published to date.
A must read for the adept as well as the neophyte.
