A Refresher Course that was much needed!, May 21, 2010

I've been a reader of John Chow since 2007 so of course I'd buy his book. If you are fairly new to the whole "make money online" scene, then this book is going to be extremely beneficial to you. With each chapter, you are basically getting step by step instructions on how to start out the right way. If you are seasoned, then you will still benefit from the book. Even though I already knew much of the information through chapter 8...I still read it word by word. It was refreshing to just go back over the basics of things and remind myself of a few things I have forgotten along the way. After chapter 8, specifically the promotion and seo pages, I found many useful tips. Things that I had forgotten about and things that I never thought of. Chapter 10, optimizing google adsense was an eye opener for me. I realized that I hadn't done quite a few things mentioned in the book and even though I make a decent amount, I could be making more had I implemented these ideas. Chapter 10 and on was fabulous! Informative and helpful! And there's even a surprise at the end.......
I would love to give more detail but then I'd give things away. It's a great read from a man who's been there, done that and you'd be wise to follow his advice. I absolutely recommend it.

A Solid Roadmap for Beginning and Struggling Bloggers, June 13, 2010

If it weren't for my familiarity with John Chow, I might have passed on this book based on my skepticism of the "make money online" theme of the title. Although you can download the ebook for free from his site, I was impressed by the comments on his blog and the reviews here that I decided to give the paperback a chance. This has become one of my top books of 2010.
I've been blogging since 2004, with modest success. While I knew quite a bit about blogging and WordPress, I managed to pick up some tips and tricks in the first six chapters. Chapter 7 covered what I felt that I needed help the most - how to write online content that attracts and keeps readers. I also learned a lot from Chapters 8 through 13 and will refer to them once I nail down the principles in the seventh chapter.
This book is such an easy read that I plowed through it this morning, highlighting almost every page. If you have just launched blog (or are planning to) and want a solid blueprint on how to make it successful, Make Money Online is a must-read. If you've been blogging for 6+ months and find yourself struggling to build your readership and/or earn a full-time living, Make Money Online is a must-read.

Get Money, Get Paid, May 29, 2010

As an entrepreneur and avid follower of John Chow, I knew I wanted to read his book when it was released a few weeks ago. I had read his free eBook and wondered if it would be the same recycled content in print version. I'm glad to report that it isn't.
John and I have a lot in common. We both got our start online around the same time by creating websites to show off our custom built computers. John went on to find huge success with his site before shifting gears and morphing into a blogging icon. I shadowed John and built a successful tech site that I still run today. I even created and authored a self-titled blog just like John. The stark difference between us is that he found great success with his blog and mine ultimately failed for many of the reasons he lists in his book. Had I known then what I know now after reading this book, I certainly would have taken a different approach with my blog from the beginning and odds are, it would be making more money than ever.
In addition to just blogging, this book offers a lot of good general information on writing as well as networking and marketing. The two latter categories are just as, if not more important than writing skills. John details how to set up a Wordpress blog, which plug-ins to install and how to monetize your blog using several different revenue streams. Once you start making money, you can use techniques discussed in the book to optimize you advertising for maximum revenue.
The book isn't limited to the Internet, however. John discusses several offline methods that you can use to promote your blog in the real-world. One key to a successful blog is using every tool available to you.
Some of the information in the book may seem like common sense but speaking as a failed blogger, methods and techniques only seem obvious once you know the proper way to do something.
John continues to be an inspiration and fuels the entrepreneurial fire within me. In fact, I registered a new domain name while reading the book and plan to get started on this new project very soon. If he can do it, why can't anyone else?
If you are new to blogging or just want to make a little extra money with a blog you already run, I would certainly recommend you give Make Money Online a read.
