Editorial Reviews

Product Description

This is a small selection of varied texts from the Taoist Canon, including yet another translation of the Tao Te Ching. As intimated in the subtitle, some of the books relate to ethics, some to politics, and some to internal alchemy. (Quote from sacred-texts.com)

About the Author

Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki (Suzuki Daisetsu, October 18, 1870 - July 22, 1966) was a famous Japanese author of books and essays on Buddhism, Zen and Shin that were instrumental in spreading interest in both Zen and Shin (and Far Eastern philosophy in general) to the West. Suzuki was also a prolific translator of Chinese, Japanese, and Sanskrit literature."

"Paul Carus, Ph.D. (1852-1919) was a German-American author, editor, a student of comparative religion, and former professor of philosophy. Carus was born at Ilsenburg, Germany, and educated at the universities of Strassburg, France and Tubingen, Germany. After obtaining his Ph. D from Tubingen in 1876 he served in the army and then taught school. He had been raised in a pious and orthodox Protestant home, but gradually moved away from this tradition. I was suprised to see this reprinted, maybe there is a few of them left afterall, if your looking for what I was and you'll know I need not say more, then this will help. I have the old red covered one but am buying this one so I can bend it up and be a bit more careless, not to destroy my 1920 reprint.
