I love a good read that makes me tear up and sniffle. Keta did that with this wonderful story. Land of Falling Stars brings the pathos of the Civil War into the reader's mind, the decisions 'sides' that tore at a nation, and the love that was sought in the aftermath of the horrors of war.

Sophia Whitfield has lost her parents, most of her home and most of the slaves. The Civil War is the cause of her great loss, in her opinion. The love of her life, Jesse Grantham, walked out of her life to fight for the South. Her great childhood friend, Gavin Langdale, chose to go and fight for the North. She has been promised to Jesse since birth so being his wife is what she has planned her whole life for. She waits week after week for news of Jesse and when he might come home and help her rebuild her broken life.

Gavin Langdale walks a very long way after her leaves the war to bring devastating news to his friend, Sophia. The news will likely knock her into a dark abyss that she may never emerge from. He battles with the decision long after he makes contact with Sophia because he also battles with the emotions that have plagued him his whole life. He wants Sophia to love him the way she loves Jesse. He wants Sophia to be his not Jesse's. Gavin has a secret that could force Sophia to hate him for the rest of her life.

The author pens a story that is unlike any other. The characters are introduced as childhood friends who become adults with very complicated life experiences to deal with. The story takes place right after the Civil War when tensions run high on both sides. Emotions are tenuous at best and even more so when old relationships become new relationships. I was torn during the reunion scenes and breathless during the chase scenes. I loved all the substories and the minor characters that were such an integral part of the author's vision. Land of Falling Stars makes you believe in the possibility of retribution and the hope of finding your brass ring in the last place you look.

I love historical books that take place during the Civil War Era, this book did not disappoint me. This book contains steamy scenes and graphic language. The characters make this book.

Sophia, Gavin and Jesse have been friends since childhood. Jesse and Sophia have been pledged to marriage from birth. Gavin hides his deep love for Sophia. Gavin was a Yankee and fought as one.

Near Fredericksburg, Virginia. May, 1864

The war is coming to an end and Sophia Whitfield has lost everything, her friends, her family, Jesse and Gavin. Lately she has been having dreams of Jesse. She just knows he will return safe and they will be married.

She didn't recognize Gavin when he walked down the road in his Yankee. She shot him. He has a bullet hole in his chest. She and two slaves try to save Gavin.

Gavin is a besieged man. War is hard on a person and he is carrying secrets that torment him. He has news for Sophia but as the days go by their passion for each other grows. Sophia is waiting for Jesse to return. Her feelings for Gavin grows as Billy Cooper swears he will have her as his wife She know it is only because he wants Arbor Rose, Sophia's homestead.

Eventually Sophia finally learns the real reason why Gavin returned to her home. Her feelings are mixed. The relationship waffles from hot to cold .

Land of Falling Stars is filled with passion, heartache, and pride. I hope there is a sequel in the works. This is a good read.
