Editorial Reviews

Product Description

"I am both spectator and participant, objective and subjective... I am celebrating and questioning what I have known and that includes the achievements and embarrassments, the loves, the lessons, the reality and the possibility." - Kylie Minogue Kylie is a vivid self-portrait of Kylie Minogue's many different personas, both public and private, as pop singer, actress, media focus, and mass cultural icon. Moving beyond autobiography, Kylie examines her iconic status, from early Neighbors appearances to gigantic music hits, and sheds light on its peculiar organic momentum. With an essay by renowned music journalist Chris Heath developed through conversations with Kylie, and with written and visual contributions from artists, photographers, musicians and designers, the book is both a celebration and an examination of this complex and well-loved figure. Contributors include, among others, Irvine Welsh, Pierre et Gilles, Wolfgang Tillmans, Sam Taylor Wood, Vivienne Westwood, Nick Cave and Ellen von Unwerth. Designed by Farrow Design. "[Kylie is] cool enough to embrace the freakier manifestations of her iconic status with ease."

- Irvine Welsh "Simply she is divine - and multi-talented." - Elton John Embossed Hardback with slipcase; 10 x 15", 200 full color images

5.0 out of 5 stars A Spectacular Record of a Great Star, February 2, 2001
By Kevin Killian (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
Wow! Page after oversized page of the most imaginative, beautiful and kooky photographs ever made of any one performing artist. Good work by all concerned, especially by Kylie Minogue who lets herself, in this compilation, be photographed and otherwise rendered in a variety of bizarre and embarrassing ways, all in the name of art. And the artists involved are fantastic, the creme de la creme of the new British and European avant-garde, including Wolfgang Tillmans, Sam Taylor-Wood, Pierre et Gilles, and so many more. In this way Minogue pokes fun at herself as a kind of cultural Gumby figure, infinitely pliant and plastic, the object of fantasy and yet somehow the subject of her own demesne. Viva Kylie Minogue--vivat, vivat Regina!

As a loyal fan, I can honestly say that Kylie shines bright in her book "Kylie". From the creative book design and slipcover, to the wonderful collection of beautiful photos, this compilation of her life and many perspectives is extraordinary and breath-taking. I recommend this book highly.

This is a fantastic book, showing the many lives of Kylie, the pop princess of the world. This book shows the many periods of Kylie's life. Including photos, paintings, magazine covers, and personal Kylie stuff. All Kylie fans, like me, SHOULD have this book!!!!!!!
