Review

Talk about a book that turned my thinking around! From the beginning of the introduction, author Mary Sheehan Warren had my attention.... Bravo! I ve never seen a more comprehensive, personally applicable book on style. I enthusiastically recommend It s So You! to three groups of people: women in general, co-op teachers (there is some great material here to form the basis of a style class for young teen girls), and mothers of daughters. --Kathy Gelzer, The Old Schoolhouse magazine

Product Description

Armed with a mirror, a pencil, and a liberating new book, any woman can look her best every day of the week. It s So You! takes women and their aspirations seriously, offering a radical new approach to fashion based on discovering and developing your personal style. You can put fashion in its place, making it a tool for your personal and professional growth, and save heaps of money at the same time. The woman with personal style can wink at the fashion world. Her clothes flatter her and boost her self-confidence because she knows the difference between style and fashion. It s So You! helps you think through your own fashion needs, to become a woman whose dignity and elegance command respect. Mary Warren demystifies the world of haute couture while teaching you to distinguish general fashion from individual style. With a light-hearted and easy tone, she encourages you to value your body as it is, rather than chasing after a glossy magazine image that has nothing to do with who you really are. Through a step-by-step process of self-analysis, you will articulate your personal style. Warren guides you through the key Fashion Moments of Truth and explains the elements of style body type, palette, wardrobe planning, accessories with well organized explanations, instructive charts and illustrations, friendly anecdotes, and answers to frequently-asked questions. The result is a fool-proof Style Profile to take you through every season and situation. And you ll have the cleanest closet of your life. True success in personal style is not self-serving. The legacy of style that you leave to your daughters and friends will inspire them to look and feel their best.

5.0 out of 5 stars I get so many compliments now!, April 16, 2007
By A. Staab (Milwaukee) - See all my reviews

Since I've made over my wardrobe using Mary Warren's easy steps, great things have happened: friends ask me if I've lost weight, I have more outfits to wear because they mix and match (I really like looking in my closet now), and I'm not spending all this money on clothes I don't really like. Buy her book--it's an investment you'll love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scientific shopping, June 4, 2007
I went through the program for a mommy makeover in Faith and Family magazine. The principles she outlines definitely made me look better (right after childbirth). I love shopping scientifically and not wasting my time and money on the wrong items. A fun read too! Am buying some copies for my sisters and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool! The tools to give yourself a fashion makeover just like on Stacy and Clinton's show, November 10, 2007
By Dara Becker (Eagan, MN USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you've been wistfully watching Stacy and Clinton's fashion makeover show on TLC wishing you could have a wardrobe makeover too, then get this book and give yourself a makeover!

There are actually simple rules you can learn to make yourself turn out looking great too--camouflaging your trouble spots and looking great overall! Stacy and Clinton don't just come up with their rules out of thin air--they use the rules as described in this book regarding body shape (not body SIZE--that's irrelevant), color, and fashion personality.

For Pete's sake, you're not doomed to come out of the process looking drab if you don't want to look drab! The author shows you how to use your body shape and coloring (hair and skin) as a basis for choosing clothing that fits YOUR personality. Put all together, you come out looking great and FEELING MORE LIKE YOURSELF (hence the title of the book).

You're not left with just words to try to figure all this out. The book is filled with illustrations to SHOW you what the author is talking about. For example, on pages 127 and 128, there are four illustrations that show how given the same body shape and coloring, you can dress to exude any of the four fashion personalities: "relaxed," "classic," "romantic," or "expressive."

AND you don't have to figure out ANY of this (body shape, coloring, fashion personality) on your own! The book contains questionnaires that will, when completed, tell you what you are.

AND the author tells you how to get all this on ANY budget!

At the end of the process, your closet will contain only things you'll love to wear and you'll wear everything in your closet. I purged my closet within hours of reading that part of the book and now I love to look at my closet filled only with things that fit me and that look good on me. I didn't even buy anything new, so it cost me $0. But when it's time to buy something new, I know exactly what I'm looking for.
