Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
As macabre as it sounds, WWI is my favorite war to read and learn about. Overall it is overlooked by almost all of pop culture. For the idea, the stories, the art work that is the illustrations, and the quality this book deserves 5 stars, however i couldn't do this simply due to the fact that the person or editor that complied this book had a clear political agenda other then to just demonstrate some amazing stories about the people that lived through this and the extraordinarily hard circumstances that these people lived and died within. I kept cringing, knowing that it is extremely easy to sit in an armchair and pass judgement on the people that lived through this, yet the editor or authors repeatedly did this. Great idea, great execution, however less opinion would have been nice.

I was quite happy with the stories presented in this anthology. While the art work varied, it was an interesting presentation of history and a starting point for further works. I would recommend Jacques Tardi (God Damn this war) and Pat Mills (Charley's War) as well.
