Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
The Internet is "the Shangri-La of anonymous, voyeuristic gratification," which, among other things, includes purging your guilt and ’fessing up to sins both trivial and grave. In September 2003, Jeffrey founded a Web site where people could do just that, and the result was a hit. Now it has spawned this engrossing collection of Web site confessions. Some of the entries are specific: one contributor remembers watching, and laughing at, a kid in elementary school who ran right into a soccer goal post while looking the other way; another admits that he (or she?) grabs "girls rear-ends" and says, "Hey Jessica," then apologizes and says they looked just like someone else. Others are vague ("After years of contemplation, I really think that I may be an atheist. It scares me a lot"), or not really confessions at all ("I love porno like a fat kid loves cake"; "I have a velvet robe and smoke a pipe w/bubbles I feel unstoppable when I wear it sic"). Organized into categories like Cheat, Laugh, Kink and Use, this book presents group therapy at its most basic.

5.0 out of 5 stars You have no idea what people are up to, December 22, 2004
By Finster (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This book caught my eye on a table at a bookstore. Cool cover, whacked-out title, let's take a look. What a mind-blower! I had never been to the anonymous confession website this book is taken from (I have now, since reading the book), and you can't believe some of the things people will confess to doing, thinking, saying, just because it's completely anonymous and no one will ever find out. The site carries random reviews identified only by number. It's fun to click around, but I prefer the book, STONED, NAKED, & LOOKING IN MY NEIGHBOR'S WINDOW. First, it's organized by "sin," so if I want to read 50 confessions all about sex, they're all together. Second, these seem to be the best, coolest, most outrageous confessions from the site, so the book cuts through all the dross and serves up the juiciest bits. I keep a copy in the bathroom, and I've bought about five of them as X-mas presents.

4.0 out of 5 stars GroupHug Addict, December 30, 2004
By J. Zwanziger "zwaz" (Boston, Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As I said, I am virtually addicted to the grouphug.us website, spending perhaps an average of 25 minutes a day there and having made perhaps a dozen confessions. I anxiously awaited the release of the book, and, while it was not a disappointment, it lacked some of the raw material and strange spelling and formatting that make the site so good. Also I had already seen many of the confessions in the book. The advantage of the book, especially to people unfamiliar with the website, is that it separates the chaff from the good, original confessions. I was also happy with the narrative that the author, Gabriel Jeffrey, proovided because it made the site more personal and I had long wondered about the identity of the creator.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive, January 20, 2005
I just bought this book today since the few entries I came across when I was flipping through it were hilarious. After reading more, I've discovered that they are mostly just depressing, but I can't stop reading. It's really good, extremely interesting, and I've been inspired to go confess.
