This is a glimpse into the life of a highly successful and impressive female scientist. Neena is well known in her field and an advocate and supporter of young scientists, both men and women. Her story may not be of interest in the mainstream, but if you are entering the challenging world of academic science, this is an interesting read. Neena shares her life and passion for science in a very open way and her writing style mirrors the way she talks in person. Her professional succeses stand for themselves and need to hide her personal life clearly was difficult in a very male-dominated career. My 3 star rating only reflects my perspective that this read will be of interest to a relatively narrow audience.

A heartwarming story of a woman who overcame many obstacles (gender and sexual orientation discrimination) to rise to the top of her field of science. In depth reflections about her life and career in a man's world make this a good read. I couldn't put it down (and I'm not a scientist!)

Very interesting book. Told much about women in the scientific university world and their efforts to achieve tenure and obtain their own labs for indepentent research. The author also writes about her own conflicts as a lesbian and still reaching all of her aspirations and goals. She covers her entire life, growing up in Baltimore and then college in Chicago. She included review questions at the end of each chapter that I thought a little peculiar, but maybe that was a requirement of this book series.

Neena B. Schwartz is an amazing woman with a great story! Women in science today should be thanking her for helping to pave the way for them.
