I bought this book in June for my oldest granddaughter's 6th birthday and it was an instant hit. Her 4 year-old sister was fascinated with it as well. The 6 year-old was intrigued by the various ways it could be read and, being quite artistic, values the detail of the illustrations. I'm told both girls continue to ask for it every evening before bed. The book is a beautiful read: the layout is unique and gorgeous to look at, and the poem/tale holds the girls' interest which leads to the most imaginative conversations! Kudos to the 17th century author and to both the 21st century illustrator and book designer.

A beautiful, unusual book…for children, but so beautifully illustrated, that I bought it for an artist friend of mine. I know she will love it! Happy with the delivery.

I got this book for my son's Indian wife and/or her wonderful family. The Peacock is the national bird of India. It wasn't exactly what I thought but with time and attention I came to really appreciate this work of art. It's a book that requires some time and thought. You can't rush through it. But, if you put in the time you'll be richly rewarded.
Now, am I going to be able to give it up when I go visit my adopted Indian family in Texas??
The jury is still out.
Thanks, Ramsingh Urveti!

I read what a wonderful book this was and was eager especially to see the illustrations. It's ok. The illustrations are nice but very traditional. You might see better at a tattoo parlor.

Tara books are making such marvellous books!
The feel of the hand crafting, the unique imaginations, the sheer pleasure
of reading, looking at, touching..
Ram Singh Urveti was also one of the artists in their 'The Night Life of Trees',
which is truly stunning.

I love this book. It is delightfully unusual and plays with the mind a little. It is also beautifully done. I bought it as a gift and will now buy one for myself.
