5.0 out of 5 stars More Obscure Music Reissued, September 11, 1999
I'm flabbergasted! I just reviewed a band called Silver Apples and in that review mentioned this band! Lo and behold it's out on CD. I read Mr. Bruce-Douglas'comments, so I am a bit leery of buying the CD. I have this on vinyl and pull it out to stun friends. They want to know who the hell this bunch was. What fun! This is another band that was not afraid to deviate from the norm in music. Sitars, theremin, and other like instruments make this a fine addtion to any collection of "psychedelic" or uncommon albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best psychedelic music ever recorded!, August 27, 1999
Ultimate Spinach makes other 'psychedelic' groups, including Pink Floyd, look like bumbling amateurs! The Hip Death Goddess still freaks me out, and I'm 47 years old!

3.0 out of 5 stars Eerie psychedelia, June 4, 2001

Unlike some bands from the late sixties who were marked "psycedelic," but weren't nearly as trippy as their album covers, "Ultimate Spinach" produced undeniably psycedelic material.

Now I'm a big fan of "real" mind-altering music. To me though the problem with most of this kind of music, is that the truly spicy stuff, often is also very dark. I find that frithning 'cause this music can, if you allow it, get into your mind and emotional state in a very intense way. Now it's great if what you allow to get in is good stuff. But most of the stuff in those days was made by lost, frustrated, and desperate people. So often that's the stuff which is in their music. Now you can have a nasty dark Rolling Stone song from that time and say "mmmh, interesting." But a truly dark psychedelic piece can sort of get to you and make you feel that dark nastiness. But maybe that's just a problem overly sensitive people like me have to deal with. Anyway the stuff on this album struck me as being trippy and creepy.
