This album ought to be called Cheick-Tidiane Seck & the Mandinkas meet Hank Jones, and be found with the African or West African music. It is the product of a happy marriage between an veteran jazz pianist and a great Mandinka band from Mali. It is beautiful, very haunting, and yes, it has some jazzy piano here and there. This is a great way to move from American jazz to its African roots!

Hank Jones is great as always. But as good as he is it's Cheick-Tidaine Seck and the Mandinkas that make this a repeatedly worthwhile and very enjoyable listen.
