5.0 out of 5 stars Don't read any more reviews on it...Just buy it!, January 22, 2004
This review is from: Black on Both Sides (Audio CD)
Seriously. This is quality listening. The vulnerability, the creativity, the lyrics...did I mention the lyrics? I love this CD. Fear Not of Man almost brings me to tears because I have to constantly remind myself that God makes me valuable. My favorites are Fear Not of Man, Hip Hop, Got, Umi Says, Rock N ROll, Climb, Mr. Nigga, and May-December. I love the whole CD. As a matter of fact, I probably have to buy it again becasue mine skips too much from being overplaying it. It's 2004 already and this is still in heavy rotation. What more can I say?

5.0 out of 5 stars Mos Real, November 6, 2001
By Eric Hood (Cleveland, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black on Both Sides (Audio CD)
I really think this album is one of the greatist,Mos Def comes off strong and hard with real meaning of what is going on in the world today. Radio or street version,it dosen't even matter to me. Because he is putting his point across on hip-hop and being a real person. yo-yo Mos Def if your out there, man keep on keeping it real.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cop immediatly!, July 26, 2001
By Heshol Gotabodi (Representin' St Pete FL) - See all my reviews
Following the smash success of Mos Def and Talib Kweli's "Blackstar"(at least it was in the underground)Mos Def capitilized on the peak of interest in his music with this marvelous piece of literature. "Black On Both Sides" has it all, bass to rattle your trunk, lyrics to make you wear out the rewind button, and a priceless amount of exuberance he puts into his music. He goes from describing love("Love") to describing his hometown("Brooklyn")to discussing the origins of Rock and Roll("Rock N Roll" has a very interesting ending)right back to discussing love, at least what he thought was love in "Ms. Fat Booty". He even puts himself out on a limb by putting his singing skills to the test on more than one occasion. But I can't hate on him though. How can you hate on this brotha(don't take his realistic depiction as a crooked cop in the much publicized MTV movie with Beyonce seriously, although the movie was hot)he put so much meat on your plate with this one, that as dessert, he added a track at the end that is a blend of jazz and hip hop, it really mellows you out. If you haven't gotten the point yet, buy the album, just remember to take it out your CD player every now and then to prevent it from melting.
