This ingenious set cooks pasta, warms sauce, and cooks vegetables and seafood simultaneously on a single burner. A three-quarter-moon-shaped colander hangs from the pot's rim by its handles to receive pasta when the water boils, while the tray fits inside the colander to steam or boil vegetables and seafood while pasta cooks. A 3-cup, lidded sauce pitcher fits inside the colander's notch and also hangs from the pot's rim by its handle. Sauce is heated as with a double boiler to eliminate stirring. Notches on the pot's lid accommodate handles, with extra notches for venting steam. Just cover with the lid to speed water heating and remove it when the pasta goes in. The 8-quart pot, whose heavy bottom has a thick aluminum core for quick, even heating, can also be used separately as a cooking vessel. Everything is polished stainless steel for good looks and long life and goes into the dishwasher for cleaning. --Fred Brack
