Product Description

Product Description

Capable of operating up to 12 audio and/or video components, this preprogrammed and learning remote control is designed with total customization in mind. Many of the commands are accessed directly from the device buttons located on the brightly lit LCD touchscreen. The MX-1000 features 50 customizable LCD touchscreen pages, of which both the text, and size/shape of the buttons can be modified according to individual preference. Included, as a standard accessory with the remote control is an RS-232C PC interlink cable. This interface connection makes it possible to completely program the set-up, operation and design of the MX-1000 directly from your PC, as well as upload data to your PC for program archiving.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chunky but VERY handy, August 1, 2009

(REAL NAME)
I have owned the MX-1000 remote control for a number of years now, and I have yet to find another IR remote controller that it cannot emulate perfectly. I rarely use the remote's internal code tables because it's built in learning capability is so much easier to set up. In fact, I've just purchased a new JVC VCR/DVD Recorder combo deck and had absolutely no trouble setting the MX-1000 up to control it. I use the PC-based software to set up the button screens the way I want them, then dump the button setup to the MX-1000 via my PC's serial port. Then it's a simple matter of teaching the MX-1000 by using the original remote. The only trouble I have really run in to is that the older PC software does some odd things when running under Windows XP - it tends to distort the programming display text so that what you've typed can be hard to decypher on the PC (it looks fine on the actual MX1000 though). Since this device uses a serial port instead of USB, it might be difficult to program on some newer PC's. Even with these flaws, and the fact that the remote IS a bit on the chunky side, it's still a very handy and flexible remote controller and I still use mine every day. I currently have it set up to control my RCA Stereo, RCA Television, Dish Network DVR625 Satellite Receiver and JVC DR-MV80B VCR/DVD Recorder.
