It does the job, November 27, 2003
By A Customer
I wanted a very inexpensive espresso maker to see just how much I would use it before I invested in one of the top-of-the-line machines. So, I purchased the Mr. Coffee and it's doing the job better than I expected.I don't use the froth on the Mr. Coffee because I have a separate froth machine which has opposing beaters that makes thick froth, heats, then turns off, all without using steam. Therefore, I have my froth and espresso ready at the same time. I just pour them both into a 15 oz mug and the result is a very hot and great tasting mocha cappuccino ready in 5 minutes. The Mr. Coffee espresso machine works so well that it may be quite some time before I invest in a super-automatic. For anyone interested in a froth machine, go to frothaulait.com. I've used mine for 2 years and love it. The up side: 1. Quick and easy to clean. 2. Simple to use. 3. Makes good espresso. 4. Small footprint. 6. Steam driven so there is no learning curve on tamping the grounds. 7. Makes over 8 oz of espresso which is enough for TWO 14-16 oz of cappuccino. The down side: 1. Filter retainer clip is a little flimsy. 2. Espresso not comparable to espresso bars or high end machines, but very acceptable. Tips: 1. Use the provided carafe to measure water and pour into machine. 2. To cool down the boiler quicker just open the steam valve, but put a sponge under it. 3. You can use a cup or carafe unless you want 2 separate cups. In that case use the carafe. Bottom line: I can highly recommend this inexpensive entry-level espresso machine.
