A Great Choice For the Right User, October 26, 2004
The Port PR600 3.1 by Targus is an excellent everyday backpack for notebook-toting students and professionals who work in a casual environment. It sports a modern look crafted from impressively heavy-gauge ballistic nylon. It can hold a ton and contains numerous storage compartments, pouches and flaps (some removable, some fixed) to suit a variety of needs. All told, they make this bag more than versatile enough to become anyone's sole solution during the daily commute and short-term travel.
Most importantly, the notebook pouch is very secure and absorbs shocks from being dropped or bumped with no problems. You should note that the padding is only on the sides and bottom of the compartment and not the front or back. You wouldn't want to load the PR600 flat (for instance into an overhead bin) and stack other bags on top of it. The Targus website lists all of the specific brands and models that it will accommodate.
The only drawbacks to the PR600 stem from the fact that it is a backpack. First, when fully loaded, it is very deep - you will make enemies on crowded elevators. Second, the straps are not the most ergonomic on the market, i.e. difficult to adjust and tough to get into/out of. Face it - there's no backpack in the world that will fit the bill when you are dressed up or need to make a smooth exit. Third, while the base is stiff rubber, it's still not enough to prevent the whole thing from tipping over when not loaded in a balanced manner.
Still, it's not fair to fault a backpack for being a backpack and this one's pros way outweigh its cons. If you need a more formal option, go with the Port shoulder bag or rolling travel bag.
PROS
* Good shock protection for your notebook
* Endless configurations of storage
* Durable construction & great looks
* Comfortable straps
CONS
* Bulky when fully loaded
* Not really functional with business attire
* Prone to tipping when placed on the floor

Decent backpack, but a few issues, December 23, 2006
After heavy use of this backpack for the past 8 months, I'm fairly satisfied. The primary selling feature for me was that the pack was very streamline and slim, so that it did not protrude far from my back like some of the "puff packs". Here are some of the pros and cons I've found through extensive use:
(1) Highly durable nylon materials, though they tend to fray on the inside seams and the threads frequently get caught in the zippers, jamming them shut. It is very annoying, but you can easily fix it by taking scissors and triming the treads. Overall I felt the fraying nylon detracted from the overall construction quality of the backpack.
(2) Heavy-duty zippers
(3) Lots of compartments
(4) Nice padding for your computer, but note there is significant room between the bottom padding and the sides of the computer compartment. This room permitted my Macbook Pro (a slim computer) to slide off of the bottom pad and rest directly on the unpadded floor of the computer compartment. Essentially, this leaves the computer with no padded protection on the bottom and my computer did get dented (the Mac is made of aluminum).
(5) Side external pockets would be better if they were large enough to hold a water bottle. They are large enough to accomodate a cell phone or iPod. One of them has very nice padding and soft microfiber lining to protect those items from external impact or scratching on a rough nylon material.
(6) Fits snuggly under a seat in an airliner.
(7) Has a detatchable internal case for cables that is quite nice.
(8) Pack features two large pockets: A padded one for the computer and a second with dividers which holds a notebook, files and other papers. This pocket features conveninent dividers and a small blue LED light to help located items. Very nice touch.
(9) Shoulder strap had a cellphone holder sewn onto it, but within 4 weeks the threads had completely frayed adn the cell phone holder was gone. This incident also made me question the overall quality of the product.
Despite some issues, I still like the pack.

Good case over all but......., March 30, 2007
Very nice bag, looks great. The HP logo along with the selection of colors work well with each other. The nylon material is very neat, a lil glossy, but over all very nice case. The shoulder strap has a some what rubbery stretchy kinda feel to it where the strap meets your sholder, kinda nice and comfortable. The handles interlocks with each other giving the feel of one handle, all these features i love, sufficient pocket space etc.
Now what I Don't Like........the But... I read a review on the case threading out b4 i bought it, i dont use the case often but i'm begining to notice along the handles threads starting to appear.. not cool, take away from the neatness. Lastly I have a glossy finish HP DV6000 laptop. I'm starting to notice minor little scratches on my glossy finish (very particular) and i believe the bag is my main culprit. The inside is made of Nylon... No cloth padding, and that sucks. Considering buying a slip case to put the laptop in before putting it in the case. HMM..
Anyways.. i love the bag.. Its neat ness, the way the logo looks, the comfort on my sholders and the colors got me.
