Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Five Three Stooges shorts, including:

Bobby Dupes(1945): The Stooges find out what that sinking feeling really feels like when they decide to increase the profits of their fish business by catching the fish themselves. Things are going swimmingly until Captain Curly goes overboard using an ax on his catch.

Crash Goes the Hash(1944): When an editor mistakes laundrymen Curly, Moe and Larry for rival reporters, he hires them to get the scoop on a pressing story. As they iron out the details, the Stooges cook up more trouble than can be foung in the paper's headlines.

Dutiful but Dumb(1941): When the editor of Whack magazine sends photographers Larry, Moe and Curly to Vulgaria, which prohibits cameras under penalty of death, nothing but problems develop and they're the ones who wind up almost being shot - literally.

How High is Up? (1940): Fix-it men Larry, Moe and Curly find themselves in a riveting situation when they get hired as riverters for a constuction company. Assigned to a skyscraper, they reach new lows in safety while working on the 97th floor.

Three Missing Links(1938): The Stooges aren't exactly leading man material, but that's why they call it acting! When Curly is cast as a gorilla and Larry and Moe as cavemen, they go to Africa to shoot the film, where a real gorilla teaches them the "method" to the madness.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD COLLECTION OF ALL CURLY SHORTS, January 4, 2005
By Tim Janson (Michigan) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
The Three Stooges at work doesn't feature any of the best shorts featuring Curly, but at least all 5 shorts ARE Curly's. Booby Dupes, Crash Goes the Hash, Dutiful but Dumb, How High Is Up?, and Three Missing Links are the five shorts on this DVD.

The Three Missing Links is the oldest from 1938 featuring the Stooges as janitors who then get jobs as extras in a Jungle movie. Curly in a gorilla suit encounters a real gorilla.

"How High is Up" from 1940 has the stooges as Tinkers who can fix anything. They end up working as riveters on a high rise building featuring some classic scenes as Curly eats a rivet thinking its a hot dog. Vernon Dent is the boss.

Dutiful but Dumb" 1941, The stooges are photographers for Whack magazine ("If it's a good picture it's out of Whack") who, after messing up an assignment, are sent to the country of Vulgaria to get a picture of a death ray gun. In Vulgaria the penalty for taking pictures in is death, and the boys soon wind up in front of a firing squad.

"Crash Goes the Hash" 1944 - The stooges are hired as reporters and their first assignment is to get a picture of a visiting prince who is planning to marry a local socialite. The boys disguise as servants and infiltrate a party being in thrown in the honor of the prince. The stooges ruin the party, but save the day as they expose the prince as crook who is planning to rob the house.

"Body Dupes" finds The stooges as fish peddlers who decide to cut out the middleman by catching their own fish. They trade their car and $300 for a "new" boat which turns out to be a piece of junk that soon falls apart and sinks in the middle of the ocean.

The DVD is very good quality and this is a fine collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Three Stooges At Work, July 7, 2004
By A Customer
DVD Review- While only 5 shorts on this collection, they are the best ones, especially "Booby Dupes". All of them fit the 'work' theme perfectly and they are hilarious. No weak shorts are in this colection, which is a plus.

Picture Quality- The picture is at it's best. All shorts are very good looking and are all perfect 35mm prints. I've never seen the stooges look this good. Aside from minor dusts and scratches here and there, the quality is picture perfect.

Sound Quality- The sound is very clear and very good. Every face slap and head bonk is very clear. "Three Missing Links" has a little bit of a tinny sound to it, but the sound is still clear.

Final Comments- Every stooge fans deserves a copy of this DVD because of it's amazing quality and excellent shorts. Columbia finally provides a 'Play All' button so you can watch all the shorts without touching your remote. No special features are contained in this collection, except for English Subtitles. Overall, this is a magnificent collection to have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stooges at Work - proxy synopsis, borrowed from IMDb, December 9, 2003
By Robert Brett (Southern CA, where our Governor can kick your Governor's gluteus maximus) - See all my reviews
Booby Dupes - 1945
"The stooges are three fish peddlers who decide to cut out the middleman by catching their own fish. They trade their car and $300 for a "new" boat which turns out to be a piece of junk that soon falls apart and sinks in the middle of the ocean. Luckily the boys also have a row boat which they climb into and then try to signal some passing planes for help. Unfortunately, their paint spattered rag is mistaken for a Japanese flag and they are bombed from the sky. "

Crash Goes The Hash - 1944
"The stooges are hired as reporters and their first assignment is to get a picture of a visiting prince who is planning to marry a local socialite. The boys disguise as servants and infiltrate a party being in thrown in the honor of the prince. The stooges ruin the party, but save the day as they expose the prince as crook who is planning to rob the house. Their boss is so grateful for the expose that he gives the boys a bonus and the rich lady decides to marry Curly!"

Dutiful But Dumb - 1941
"The stooges are photographers for Whack magazine ("If it's a good picture it's out of Whack") who, after messing up an assignment, are sent to the country of Vulgaria to get a picture of a death ray gun. In Vulgaria the penalty for taking pictures in is death, and the boys soon wind up in front of a firing squad. Curly's last request is a giant cigar and by the time he's done smoking it all the soldiers are asleep and the stooges make their escape."

How High Is Up - 1940
"The stooges are the 'Minute Menders', three tinkers who live under their car. The boys decide to drum up some business by punching holes in the unattended lunch boxes of some workmen. When they're caught in the act, they escape and accidentally get hired as riveters on a new building, working on the 97th floor. Their ineptitude and lousy workmanship screw up construction of the building and they must parachute off the building to escape the wrath of the boss."

Three Missing Links - 1938
"The stooges are janitors working in a movie studio. After wrecking the bosses office, they get jobs as actors in an African movie. Curly plays a gorilla and Moe and Larry are primitive natives. On location in Africa, the stooges have a confrontation with a witch doctor from whom Curly buys some "love candy" with hopes of attracting the films leading lady. When a female gorilla disrupts the movie set, Curly eats some of the candy and chases after her."
