Product Description

Product Description

The powerful memory of the MX-700 offers over 900 potential macro buttons. Each of these macros can play back a sequence of programmed commands that completely automates a complex system with one button press. A macro button can record and play back up to 190 steps with time delays between steps as well as jumping to a new scene when desired. The MX-700 controls up to 20 components. Each of the 20 components can be programmed with up to 4 pages of LCD screens plus the 34 hard buttons. The MX-700 allows the installer to edit the text on each LCD screen exactly as you prefer (up to 87 screens with 870 text buttons are available). Whether you prefer single screen simplicity or total replacement of the original remotes, the MX-700 will exceed your expectations. The MX-700 and its MXEditor software package contains over 1,500 "code sets" of Brand/Models including hard to find and specific discrete codes that allow for precise control of all system components. The MX-700 also has the ability to learn over 1,500 new commands. The MX-700 system features a smart flash memory back-up system that will retain the programmed memory for up to ten years, even with dead batteries. The optimized layout enables you to naturally reach both the thumbpad and hard buttons to navigate on-screen menus and the critical Transport, Channel and Volume controls. You'll quickly discover that you prefer using the MX-700 to control all the special features of your system (especially personal video recorders, satellite receivers, DVD players, surround sound receivers and digital cable boxes). There will never be a reason to dig out the old remotes again. The bright backlight using the latest EL technology enables you to use the remote in the dark easily. Unlike standard rubber buttons, GemStone buttons provide the ultimate in tested reliability, give a secure tactile feel and possess a more elegant look.

4.0 out of 5 stars No warranty / support / software on Amazon purchases, August 2, 2006
By K. Fowler (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As of August 1, Universal Remote Control products have become unusable unless purchased from an authorized dealer -- which Amazon.com is not.

Universal Remote Control has removed the software needed to use the remote from the box. They have also removed the software from their web site. URC has said that only customers who purchase at list price from an authorized dealer will be given access to the software. Without this software, the customer has no way to update their remote or program it.

Announcement from URC on this issue is here:

This is a nice remote, but if you want it, make sure you purchase from an authorized dealer that can give you access to the software needed to program it. A list of authorized Internet dealers is below -- you must purchase from one of these dealers to get a functional MX-700:

4.0 out of 5 stars Universal Remote Support policy change!, August 7, 2006
Buyer beware! - Universal Remote has recently changed their support policy and no longer provides the programming software REQUIRED to operate this unit to customers who do not purchase from an Authorized Dealer. And sadly, Amazon.com is NOT considered an authorized dealer in the eyes of Universal Remote Company.

This means you will be unable to use this remote until either Amazon.com becomes an authorized retailer (Expect prices to increase about 50%) or Universal Remote changes their stance on obtaining the programming software.

Aside from the support issue described above, I have no issue recommending this remote. I've used this unit for several years with no major issues, and it is highly durable, laid out well and has great range.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this!, August 1, 2006
As of 1 August 2006, Universal Remote Control will no longer allow consumers to download the software needed to program this remote. You might as well flush your money down the toilet. Pronto - here I come.
