Product Description

From the Manufacturer
Finally there is a new way to display digital photos instantly. Just DirectConnect and view: Digital Spectrum’s new 8 x 10 Memory Frame is a stand-alone, electronic picture frame that requires no camera memory card, PC, printer, paper, ink or monthly subscription fee. Users can easily and quickly transfer photos, on the spot, directly from a digital camera or card-reader into MemoryFrame. Then they can immediately play them back--in a continuous slideshow of vibrant, high-resolution images--on Memory Frame’s 10.4-inch active matrix screen. The MF-810S deluxe stereo audio model records voice narration or music to accompany the slideshow. In addition, it comes mounted into a standard 8 x 10 wood picture frame to create a handsome photo display for home or office on desk, shelf or wall. The user can buy additional frames to match their decor. MemoryFrame stores 32 to 80 photos and allows you to select how long each image is displayed and what style of transition is used between each image.

It is ideal for both home and office users to proudly display family photos on the desk, shelf, or wall. Also excellent for the business countertop to display special promotions. The only product of its kind to be compatible with both USB cameras as well as USB card-readers for Compact Flash (CF), SmartMedia (SM), SecureDigital (SD), MultiMediaCard (MMC), MicroDrive, and MemoryStick memory cards, the Pacific Digital Memory Frame operates with the vast majority of USB Mass Storage compliant digital cameras in use today.

The stylish design of the Digital Spectrum Memory Frame and its unique ability to use virtually any off-the-shelf wood 8x10 picture frame allows you to choose a frame that matches your decor, whether it be cherry wood, oak, pine, teak, walnut, etc. The Memory Frame comes with one 8 x 10 picture frame (type may vary).

Digital PixMaster Software
For those who do use a PC, you can also create, name, and save hundreds of different slideshows for easy USB transfer to/from the Memory Frame. Easily create professional looking photo slideshows. Choose the pictures, the effects, and the transitions and let Digital PixMaster do the rest. Digital Spectrum developed the Digital PixMaster software specifically for the home digital photo enthusiast. PixMaster is an innovative solution that is incredibly easy to use, while offering key features, such as the ability to rotate photos, specify effects, and create/name/save unique slideshows from your vacations, sporting events, family functions, etc. The bundled software easily allows you to create custom slideshows that integrate photos from both your camera as well as images received by email or stored in the "MyPictures" directory of your Windows PC (or other directories). These slideshows can be quickly downloaded via USB to your Memory Frame for instant viewing enjoyment.

2.0 out of 5 stars I wanted so badly for this to work..., November 16, 2004
By M. Brant "Observer" (Mountain Lakes, NJ) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I can't say for sure that my experience was typical, but I can say that it was horrible.

The short version is: I had to return it once for a screen failure, then I had to return the replacement for a screen failure (and a refund).

In between the returns, I spent a significant amount of time on the phone with customer support. The manual was inadequate, especially for the wireless stuff. I also had problems with Windows (Network Bridging, I think) that further complicated things.

For the brief time the two units worked, I was pleased. The picture quality was good, and once running, I had no problems with the software.

I take a lot of digital photos. This would have been the perfect compliment.

I gave the Memory Frame two stars (instead of one) because, in between failures and configuration problems, I was pleased with the quality of the display.

Too bad I couldn't say the same about the quality control.

1.0 out of 5 stars BAD BAD BAD Customer service (tech support), June 30, 2004
By "rigginss" (Roseville, CA United States) - See all my reviews
The product is great overall. However the 8x10" size is a bit misleading. It FITS an 8x10" frame, but the actuall screen size is a bit smaller, about 6 1/4" x 8 1/4".

However, the reason I give it only one start is because of Pacific Digital's customer service.

I couldn't connect to my frame via the wireless network from my desktop system. USB worked fine though. I spent ~3 hours with their tech support last week and they couldn't fix it. I asked that it be escalated to their engineers and they promised me that I'd get a call from an engineer by this Tuesday. It's now Weds. and no call.

So, I brought my work laptop home and hooked it up to the wireless network, installed the frame management software and everything worked just fine. I call tech support up to a) Let them know what happened with the laptop and b) find out when I'm going to get to talk to an engineer. Their response was that the frame is obviously working and there was nothing more they could do other than to suggest reformatting my hard disk (NOT an option.)

I pointed out, to no avail, that their software is failing to function as advertised. They still refused to work on it any further. I asked to be transfered to an engineer. I was put on hold for several minutes only to be told that they're all "busy."

Having worked in technical support for ten years, and with computers for 20 years, I found this totally unacceptable.

I'm going to try and get it working myself, but if I can't get it going in the next few hours I'm going to return the product.

I will never do business with Pacific Digital again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wi-Fi Digital Frame was easy, September 16, 2004
I've tested the other Pacific Digital frames and the feature of using any standard 8x10 frame is really what I like the most. I got this unit (which comes with a Dlink USB to 802.11b dongle) and tested it with my Linksys router. After configuring windows correctly (which they now have posted on the web site), I was able to see the frame from my PC with the bundled software. There was a small learning curve, but I really like this method of copying over photos instead of wires. It takes about the same amount of time and you can name the frames if you have mulitple units (like living room, office, etc).

Overall this has the best resolution of the units I've seen and removing wires is GOOOOD.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good product, best in the market
Good product, probably the best digital frame in the market. Drawbacks are the user interface and the difficulty to set-up the wireless connection.
