Product Description

Product Description

Joyce Chen opened her first restaurant in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1958. She found that the selection and quality of Chinese cookware in America didn't live up to her high standards… so she developed her own. Today, Joyce Chen Products sources from all over the Pacific Rim to bring the best of Asia to you. This 5" stainless strainer is a handy little kitchen addition. Its generous bowl will allow you to scoop wontons or dumplings with ease. Earth-friendly bamboo handles stay cool to the touch and look great

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Scoops! Love this spider!, November 29, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Bought both the size 5 and 7. I use BOTH frequently, but size 7 is the one I use almost daily. I scoop vegetables, ravioli and pot stickers out of
boiling water safely with the size 7 (to avoid the breakage caused when you dump in a colander)!! The 7 fits in most pots despite the size. I like the size 5 for the frying pans and deep fryer to keep the breading intact or scooping seafood quickly. The wooden handles are long so you can avoid the hot steam and oil! No more carrying dangerously heavy hot pots to the sink. The strainers are sturdy with handles that are very secure. I don't store them in drawers. I like them handy in the counter tool caddy near the range...they clear the cabinets easily.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Gadget, September 19, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Not much to say about this product, it's a strainer. It does however beat using a slotted spoon to lift food out of boiling water or hot grease. I just started using it to dip spaetzle out of the pot in between batches. Works pretty good. This is a nice "filler" item if you are looking for something to add to your order to avoid shipping and handling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, May 25, 2006
By roland (Idaho) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
There seems to be an emphasis on mesh strainers in this country, and thats all I seem to find in the grocery stores. Perhaps thats why Joyce Chen created this product - deep frying is alot easier without a mesh because mesh strainers do not allow the hot oil to drain fast enough or completely. Then when this happens you end up with alot of oil soaked fried onion rings, calamari or pakoras - whatever it is. This strainer is a must have for proper deep frying.

2.0 out of 5 stars cheap and overpriced
The product is nothing special, a stick with a basket on the end. It is poorly made and by the time you pay shipping it is overly priced. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Strainer
This is a great little tool. It is so much better to get fried foods out than a slotted spoon. It is easy to use and fits our needs perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Spider
This inexpensive spider from Joyce Chen is great for scooping dumplings and other goodies out of hot oil or water. Great option for an introductory spider.

I purchased this recommended strainer with a Fry Daddy. I didn't know that the Fry Daddy came with a (plastic) strainer. I never used the 5" stainless steel strainer. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised
Just the right size for standard size stock pots. Wide wood handle doesn't retain or transmit heat and it's shape doesn't allow the basket to roll in your fingers.
