5.0 out of 5 stars An African Hunting Classic, June 25, 2006
By David Adams (Minnesota) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Martin Johnson's Lion is a African hunting classic. The red cover Blue Ribbon edition is the fifth impression, Sept. 1931. Of course, Martin and Osa Johnson went to Africa to film the lions, not shoot them. There is no blood and gore in this account, just an interesting story of an film safari with trucks and Kodak in the late 1920's.
"Many sights that we have seen in Africa still impress us as being unique; but for drama, for power, for sustained excitement, no other experience that we have ever had approached those hectic days that we spent on the fringes and in the heart of the ten million zebras and wildebeeste that made up the great migration of 1928."
It was a world passing away.
