Be Aware of the Switch, May 30, 2009
Some time in 2008, Nature's Way Sambucol (made in Israel and endorsed by virologist Dr. Madeline Mumcuoglu's) became Nature's Way Sambucus, a replacement product. The names are used interchangeably on amazon.com (searches for one will lead to the other) which is misleading because it is not the same product. In fact, I ordered Sambucol last November and received Sambucus.
The Sambucus formula of elderberry, echinacea, propolis, etc. is supposed to mirror the original recipe of black elderberry + same. I liked the taste of the Sambucol Immune System, so it wouldn't be so bad if the replacement tasted similar. Instead, Sambucus is unbelievably sweet. At first I thought it was a result of the elderberry variant used, but on closer examination saw that fructose is listed as the first ingredient. It has a pleasant fruity taste to begin with, so imho this is totally unnecessary. It is also more watery, but for me this is a good thing.
As for its effectiveness, I haven't had the opportunity to gauge. Furthermore, Sambucol has worked for me at times, and failed to prevent or shorten bad colds at other times, so I expect Sambucus to be similar.

Definitely Worth A Try!!, February 21, 2007
I use this product anytime I feel a cold coming on, and I must say that in my experience it has worked quite well. If you're anything like me you may be skeptical at first, however, it is definitely something I would suggest to anyone who may want to add to their "cold fighting" regimen.
Personally, I find that it works best if you take it when your cold symptoms (the standard sneezing, runny nose, etc.) are just starting, so having a bottle on hand is helpful. If you're looking for a way to shorten the duration of your cold, this product is worth looking into.

Best for cold/flue/sore throte and swollen glands - works every time!, December 24, 2007
I can not say enough about this product. My mother first introduced it to me several years ago visiting me. I could feel the cold season coming on with the tell tale sign of swollen irritated throat glands and mucous. A couple of these under the tongue and relief was almost instant. Since then I have sought it out and tried other brands when I could not find Sambucol and they did not work at all. Only this brand seems to be effective. This saves me from getting sick every time. If you can't find Sambucol in your local store, don't waste your time or money on another brand. Order it off the internet. An important note: It seems to be most effective when slowly dissolved sub-lingually back at the base of the tongue closest to your glands and not just simply chewed up or swallowed. Also, these taste great and are pleasant to suck on; likewise easy to give to children.
