A solid 4 stars, good for the money!, December 20, 2005
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082660 Vision Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
Overall I like this vac for the price. It is not comparable to it $200 counterparts, but for the $69 I paid for it, it was well worth the money. I think this vac is comparable to vacs in the $80 or less range.
PROS: I have a bad back so I love that it is so light and easy to move. Empting it is so easy, just press one little button and your done. I also like how they separated the filter area from the dust area so you don't have to shake out the filter each time you use it. It works great for places like the bathroom where there are bath mats; it goes right onto them without sucking up the corners or chewing up the rug. It is low profile so it goes under furniture and around items very easy. The cord retractor works great, I have never used a cord retractor that actually works all the way to the end, but this one does!
Cons: The vacuum head is a little cheap; it feels flimsy and has a hard time on carpet. The spinning head is moved by the suction, not by the motor, so it doesn't spin very well on carpet, you have to baby it a bit. It does have a hard time picking up small thing, you have to pick up the head and put it right over the object, then it will pick it up.
If your house has wall-to-wall plush carpet this vac is not for you. It has a very hard time rolling on thick carpet. If you have almost all hardwoods like me, it is great. I have 2 boys and a black lab so we put our vac to good use in our home.
If you are looking for a very nice sturdy vacuum that is quality made you are going to have to spend more money, but if you want something that will get you by for a few years while you are saving up for that Dyson, this is a good bet.

Don't Buy It !, April 18, 2007
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082660 Vision Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
I bought this vacum at Target nearly six months ago. It has a very strong suction, and runs relatively quiet, but it cost a fortune to maintain! The root cause for this maintainence is that Dirt Devil designed this machine to use the Hepa filter as a vacum bag. All the dirt raps itself around the filter until its completely crapped up, and if you use it beyond that stage it will completely shut-down. I call customer service about it, and they recommended that I clean the filter more frequently. Which I now do, but I still have to replace the filter on average once every 2 months or else I'm force to breath all the fine particles that the Hepa is suppose to protect me from. The cost of each filter is an appauling $30 bucks. My car filter doesn't cost more than $7 dollars. At this rate I've already bought the vacum cleaner within my six months of use. Save yourself the hassel. Don't buy it!

Good vacuum, great price, March 8, 2006
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082660 Vision Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
I live in a 2 bedroom apartment (~700 sq feet) with hardwood floors and very limited carpeting. I purchased this vacuum to get rid of the dust bunnies created by my 3 very energetic cats. So far the vacuum has great suction, given that the collection container is relatively empty. I'm not quite sure how effective the vacuum would be in a fully carpeted place, but 3 cats can shed enough fur to make an uncarpeted place seem carpeted, or at the very least make fur your most frequently consumed item.
Before purchasing this vacuum, I did a good amount of research on several vacuums, including this one, the Dirt Devil the Euro Pro Shark and the Hoover Telios which all retail around the same price (~$100).
I decided against the Hoover Telios as a couple of reviewers said the wand constantly detached from the hose, which defeats the purpose of the vacuum. As far as the Euro Pro Shark goes, I tried one in Sears and was happy with the suction power but multiple reviewers said the suction power decreased drastically after the first couple of weeks. The bad customer service to go along with decreased suction steered me far away.
Conveniently, the Dirt Devil received a couple of positive reviews. To go with that, Amazon gave me a good discount (~30?, don't quite remember) for opening a credit account.
I'm happy with this vacuum even though it isn't a Dyson or Electrolux which costs 5x more and maybe 2x as effective for my needs.
