This was purchased for an English major friend who loves Jane Austen. It is such a ridiclious concept which is what makes it so awesome. She loved it and couldn't believe something like this existed. If you have an Austen lover in your life and are looking for a fun gift idea, this is it.

You can't even read "Jane Austen Action Figure" and not giggle to yourself! This is sort of Accoutrements, Inc.'s point.
I own the "Leonardo da Vinci Action Figure" and plan to add a few more to my collection.
No, I am not a collector of action figures, but these simply add personality to your desk or car (my Davinci Doll has been mounted on the dash of my car for years). They tell people something about your personality. In my case, I am a college student studying Engineering and Philosophy, and have been an artist for years (I owe my late father for this, he was a Medical Doctor and graduated with degrees in Philosophy and Marine Biology, his genes gave me the ability to be left-minded AND right-minded: Science and Literature, Math and Art, etc.). Naturally Leonardo da Vinci is a hero of mine.
Another friend of mine is the Executive Conductor of Fort Wayne, Indiana's own Philharmonic Orchestra. He is an avid opera fan. He has the "Wilhelm Richard Wagner Action Figure" and it sits in a place of honor on his bookshelf, infront of his music books.
My SISTER, however, loves all things English. Jane Austen is one of her favorite authors. I gave her this figurine as a complement to a leather-bound "Seven Novels by Jane Austen" book reviewed by me elsewhere at Amazon.Com. SHE COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING when she opened it! It still graces her bookshelf or her desk, where she uses it to inspire her studies in World History and Women's Studies. As I said, it tells people about your personality.

This is a cute figurine for Jane Austen fans. The material is plastic and isn't of the highest quality but if you're looking for a simple, not too sophisticated gift item this would be appropriate.

This figure is NOT a toy. Being a Jane Austen fan, I'm glad I bought this figure. I have left it in its packaging on a shelf. It is delicate and not to be handled.

I bought this doll for a friend of mine who is a huge Jane Austen fan, and it's adorable. I love that it's an action-figure - and that writing can be considered an action (as someone currently writing a dissertation, it's nice to think that those endless hours might be considered "action").
This toy is pretty much all you could possibly ask for in a plastic action figure of an author. Though I would love to see her battle Shakespeare or Joyce...

Amongst all the action figures herein offered on amazon, this JANE AUSTEN ACTION FIGURE, (with writing desk and quill pen), is the ONLY female action figure that I have yet to come across. I hope there are more, that I just haven't seen yet -- but as of now, this seems to me to be the only one.
However, the choice of Jane Austin -- if, indeed, she is the only female action figure now available -- is a very good choice indeed! Ms. Austen wrote romantic novels, it is true -- but the fact that she was able to write ANY novel, (being a female), was questioned deeply during her lifetime, (see the movie, "Being Jane", for futher illucidation!)
Furthermore, some of her novels, (such as "Emma", and "Northanger Abbey"), poked wild fun at the other "romance" writers of her day. Romance for romance's sake was NOT what Ms. Austen was all about! Character development, (and character-building, amongst her readers), was what she liked!
The elegant prose of Ms. Austen is much to be admired. The writing desk and quill-pen included are a joy to the collector, and an impetus to writers -- male and female, old and young alike -- as well!
One hopes that a new edition of this action figure will soon be available -- one that does NOT have arms coming off! I wish, too, that -- if they have not yet been made -- that other female action figures be able to join the new version of Ms. Austen. Such as, (just to name a few), Marie Curie, Abigail Adams, Milicent Fenwick, Dauphne du Maurier, Clara Barton, Jacqueline Kennedy, (who, very quietly, gave much money to N.O.W.!), Anne Frank, and -- perhaps the most direct literary "descendant" of Ms. Austen that ever was -- the late, great Georgette Heyer, the only writer who in my opinion, can claim co-eminence with Jane Austen, in the writing of Regency Romance!

I purchased this item because I am a teacher and I wanted to put a collection of literary figures on my desk. Shortly after taking the figure out of the box (literally, within minutes) a colleague was looking at it and went to raise the figure's left arm. She did not apply unnecessary pressure but the figure snapped in half. When I looked at the broken midsection, I noticed that the top and bottom were held together by less than 1/8" diameter semi-circle of plastic (an amount slightly larger than the largest part of a toothpick). I feel that the design could be improved greatly. As Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors, I am dissappointed that so little attention was paid to the design- especially since she is known for her great attention to detail. Sad, sad design.
