Editorial Reviews

About the Artist
Andy Andrist draws his remarkable comedic courage from the same place he extracts his unique world view: Straight out of another bottle of domestic light beer. His is a world overrun with overweight women, trailer parks, special athletes, Wal-Marts and death. Needless to say, Andy’s world is trashy, poignantly idiotic and friggin’ hilarious. Andy’s genius comes from his understanding that people everywhere just want to stop thinking, get drunk, watch the game, and maybe get a sloppy piece of action before tomorrow becomes another day. So even when Andrist riffs on women who lie their way to handicapped parking permits, or when he talks about betting on Special Olympians, he’s really not making fun of those people. His real disdain is reserved for people like you and me, the Average Joes who are satisfied with being, well, average. During Andrist’s two seasons on the writing staff of Comedy Central’s The Man Show, he kept the censors so busy redlining his outrageous sketch ideas that carpal tunnel syndrome became more rampant than the common cold. That experience, in addition to his many years as a top protégé of comedy’s neutron bomb, Doug Stanhope, has Andrist primed to break loose as a headliner in his own right. His special brand of enlightenment will make you see your world – and yourself – differently.

Product Description
Remember the first time your parents left you home alone and within the first hour you somehow found your way into your big brother’s 2 Live Crew albums, your dad’s secret porn stash, and your mom’s flask of Goldschlager she kept hidden inside a pair of her fancy shoes she told you to never go near? Well, all innocence is once again re-lost as cerebral raunch-teur, Andy Andrist, awakens these repressed feelings of misguided-guilt-ridden-joy with overwhelmingly filth-ridden exorbitance on Stand Up! Records latest release "Dumb It Down For The Masses." Andrist offers the world an easy way to enjoy life and solve all of life’s problems all in one CD… by dumbing it down… and drinking… a lot. Andrist invites his audience into a world of booze induced activities where real anarchy lives and retarded people are brought along for the fun of it and not just for a handicapped parking spot and purposes of political correctness. And, even though this CD in itself is a gift to society, make sure you stick around for the exclusive bonus track where Andrist imparts his priceless wisdom about gays and God onto an audience of Quakers… seriously. And just like when you were left home alone for the first time, after listening to "Dumb It Down For The Masses," you might have to watch Sesame Street and force yourself to cry in order to regain your sweet childhood innocence and look your parents in the eye.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funnier than you deserve, January 18, 2006
By Mr. Hinty "morbidobscenity dot com" (Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica) - See all my reviews
Andy Andrist's typical activities: He runs marathons, volunteers his time to take mentally challenged individuals on special trips, debates NPR points of view with colleagues, helps friends with remodeling projects and takes his daughter to ice skating and horse riding lessons.

In between, he takes a few minutes here and there to be the funniest SOB you've probably never heard. The reason you haven't heard of Andy Andrist? Well, you may not be ready. Most of the world isn't.

His humor is a sword slashing through society's norms. When he talks about the mentally challenged, he pokes fun -- but it is quickly obvious that he's on their side, and he's really making fun of the "normals" who pigeonhole these individuals and keep them away from many of life's joys. What he doesn't say is that Andy has really had a couple of mentally challenged friends since childhood, and he's still a devoted friend today.

When he talks about fat people, he's really talking about a fat and lazy and gimme-gimme society. Andy asks if you "support the troops," and after the cheer, he asks you HOW you've been supporting them. Hmmmmm...

Andy Andrist jokes about death and desire and sloth and settling for less, and it's funny and it hits home. He is as quick with a great line or quip as any comic working in this mediocre world.

It is quite possible that Andy Andrist is too funny for the world. Why don't you see if he's too funny for you?

5.0 out of 5 stars ANDY ANDRIST- THE NEW FUNNY STANDUP STEINBECK OF AMERICA, January 23, 2006
By P.F.E. Aabelwert (Arkansas,OH.) - See all my reviews
Andy Andrist, burst on the comedy scene already a legend. Award winning writer for four hit shows, "Man Show", "Daily Show", among others to his credit. He turned his back on writing and development deals and went for the standup comedy life. Mind numbing tour dates, crowded bars, small venues, loneliness of the road. More than two years of travel, without seeing home has created a seminal piece of road comedy.

From his tracks on this CD, we hear what he heard on his long journey through the heartland of America. Quiet desperation, failed dreams, a society that can't (won't) care for it's young, it's injured, it's frighten. They are stories that many people won't want to hear- War on The Homeless-
Queer Rights-Dumb It Down- and yes, Wal-Mart Sucks. Topical to be sure; strongly worded, you bet. His stories of the weak and wounded are also there; the sarcastic "Special Olympics", the heart tinged ironic, "Too Many Erections", and many others. Join the rest of the leading authors of the new wave comedy noir (Doug Stanhope, who gives a great intro is the leading voice) and listen to true stories of the absurd. Are you listening, America?

3.0 out of 5 stars Has Some Great Moments, March 10, 2006
This CD is very funny at times, but at others it falls flat. I originally got it because Doug Stanhope recommended it on his website. Sorry Andy, but you're no Doug Stanhope. Before you get this album, try "Sicko" or "Die Laughing."
