Wonderful big monitor., September 4, 2006
I have 2 of these. They are very huge, and very clear. One has a few non bothersome dead pixels and the other has no defects. Don't be put off by the 1400x1050 resolution. That is a plus since the lower resolution allows for bigger icons and text. Make sure your video card can be set for a custom resolution of 1400x1050, or that it has DVI which should automatically find the monitors resolution. You don't want to run this in non native resolution (no different than other LCDs).
The DVI cable is included. It does have speakers, but they aren't really so great sounding.

Great Display Overcomes Some Shortcomings, February 3, 2007
I just replaced my CRT display with the ViewSonic VG2021m 20" LCD, and overall it's fine, but not perfect. I actually debated on giving this three or four stars, but finally settled on three even though providing a good display is the most important thing a monitor does, and this display is beautiful, crisp, and vibrant. The display by itself would get five stars.
Having said that, though, there are problems with the monitor. The built in speakers are worse that I expected: they are substantially weaker and more tinny than the ones in my laptop, and external speakers are almost mandatory.
The documentation is terrible, there's just no way around it. There is a brochure that looks useful and is in about twenty languages, but it only discusses how to set the monitor up on it's stand, for all intents and purposes. To get to the user's manual, you have to install software from a CD (which puts an antiquated version of Acrobat Reader on your computer to clutter things up a bit) just to see the instructions. You don't think you need instructions for a monitor? That's what I thought too until I tried to actually adjust it, a point that brings me to my biggest criticism of the monitor.
I know that ViewSonic wants their monitors to look cutting edge, but they have minimized all controls (except for the power switch) to a row of five tiny buttons on the right edge of the case. They are not labeled, nor are they intuitive. What they actually do is page through a series of menus, and they have to be worked in a very precise sequence and in a short amount of time to accomplish whatever it is you want to do (including adjust speaker volume.) I have never in my life seen a worse setup for controls. I bought the monitor online as an accessory to a new computer. Although I like the resolution of the monitor, there are too many drawbacks to let me recommend it without reservation.
I recommend this monitor for excellent picture quality. Having said that, if I had to do it over again, I would likely purchase a different product.

Short Lifespan, November 30, 2006
I purchased 2 Viewsonic LCD monitors and both lasted about a year and a half before the left side of the screens went dark. No diagnostic queries or interactions could bring them back to normal. I contacted customer support and was told that Viewsonic would do nothing. Maybe I was stupid not to get a warranty beyond the first year, but I assumed that a good, product, with good parts, from a company with a desire to satisfy its customers would have a QA/QC program to ensure that it was turning out good products. With 2 monitors having the same problem and lasting a bout the same amount of time, this strongly indicates to me a non-coincidental problem within Viewsonic. I will not buy anything from Viewsonic again. I will spend a little more, if I have to, to get a reliable product from a reliable company.
