The Good:

LOTS of characters to play, with plenty of depth and technical mastery required to truly master the game. If memorizing complex juggles, 5-10 hit combos, safe/unsafe moves, and the frame data for your moves and the moves of your opponents sounds like 'good times' for you then this game has got you covered.

The Bad:

Everything else. The graphics look waxy and dated compared to other recent releases (SC4 which was released by the same company...), the scenario campaign is a tedious grind--hint: choose Devil Jin as your free unlockable and thank me later--although it's not the torture others make it out to be, and most are reporting the online play is laggy (although I didn't notice it the few times I went online to remind myself that I am a horrible Kazuya player).

Final verdict:

The hardcore purists will enjoy the game for it's depth and steep skill requirement--and be frustrated with the online play, but those of you just looking for a pretty game to sit on the couch and button-mash with your girlfriend, you might want to skip this one.

Tekken 2 was the First game I ever owned and I liked the character stories and I've been waiting for this game for the longest time now, and I was expecting a lot, I just wanted the story's but they don't really focus on the story's the fights for the story's are short in # but the graphics are Great.

you Have to play campaign mode to unlock characters if you want to see their story

Cons:

Load time (yes this bothers me, because its long enough that there is an awkward silence if other ppl are around watching)

The subtitles are crazy small and hard to read, what are the Tekken ppl thinking? after playing 6 other Tekken games my eyes aren't what they used to be.

Pros:

looks good

story mode battles are quick

this game will keep you entertained for hours

they do a quick recap of the story starting from Tekken (but the subtitles are small and hard to read)

I've been playing Tekken as a casual gamer since the original arcade machine came out in the early 90's. I always enjoy this series and appreciate that even a casual player can jump in and pull some cool moves. The characters are unique and varied, and the designers always work hard to make this game THE fighting game of its generation in terms of visuals and style.

That being said, the appeal here to the casual gamer is limited to Vs. mode in the Arcade menu. I played the campaign mode for about an hour or so, and literally fell asleep while doing so. I haven't tried it since. The arcade mode is great, until you get to the Bonus stage and Nancy pretty much chumps you regardless of your difficulty setting. Luckily, she's only a bonus stage, so whether you win or lose, you go on to fight Jin, who presents more of a challenge than you've probably had up to that point but is still very beatable. Then comes Azazel, which like other reviewers have pointed out, is just a cheap, hardcore punishment only the most dedicated gamers will enjoy fighting over and over and over and over. I played through the arcade mode with Jack (my favorite character throughout this series) the first time I put this game in, and literally didn't lose a match until Nancy pulverized me. No big deal, it's a bonus, so I still advanced and then took out Jin. Then Azazel shows up and I can barely land a blow before the carnage ensues? Jack's a character I've played for, what, 15 years? He's straightforward, has had the same special moves for most of the sequels, and yet suddenly he's just crap against this boss? I played through Tekken 5 with Jack on the same difficulty level and beat the arcade mode in under an hour. Azazel unfortunately kills this game for me, because as a casual gamer my enjoyment playing through the Arcade mode and feeling challenged yet capable for ten matches was completely overshadowed by a ridiculuously cheap and over-the-top boss that's no fun to fight against.

I've been playing Tekken games since my high school days. Back then, small arcade shops were still scattered about local malls and you could routinely find a small gathering of gamers clustered around the latest game-cabinet. From the moment I first played Tekken I was hooked; the controls for each limb were intuitive, the polygonal graphics impressive, and the gameplay tighter than Sega's Virtua Fighter. I dropped many a quarter into Tekken arcade cabinets in those days.

Since then I've followed the Tekken series closely and have owned every Tekken on PlayStation consoles. That brings us to present day and Tekken 6. First, Namco-Bandai, the developer, is classifying T6 as a, "RPG/Fighting Game". That should tell you where Namco is taking Tekken. The ill-conceived "Tekken Force" game that initially appeared in Tekken 3 with variations in Tekken 4 and 5 is now "Scenario Mode" in Tekken 6 and is more prevalent than ever before. In fact, in order to unlock each of the fighter's prologues and ending cinematic-sequences you'll have to at least try Scenario Mode in order to unlock the "Arena".

The same complaints that many Tekken fans have had since Tekken Force initially debuted are still plaguing Scenario Mode. Mainly, the camera and controls are horrible. The player has zero control over the camera and often times you'll find yourself cornered by enemies and the camera positioned poorly. Thanks to the ever-rotating camera, controls will switch on the fly. Each level of Scenario Mode will unlock a bit of the Tekken 6 storyline presented as either a dialogue sequence between your character and your partner Alysia, a journal entry or animated sequence. The story is a contrived mess that is mostly forgettable to all but the most hardcore Tekken fans.
