Editorial Reviews

SomewhereCold.com: May 18, 2006
Au4 has created a very good album... that will overwhelm the listener in an almost sneaky, subtle way.

Product Description
"On: Audio" was produced by Au4 and Richard Dolmat at Digital Sound Magic studios in Vancouver and is released on their own label, Torn Open Records. The nine tracks draw from trip-hop, ambient and dreampop styles, featuring the breathy, haunting vocals of Ben Wylie, who also scripted the fantastical stories of love and life.

A melancholic tone weaves throughout "On: Audio", but the mood is of contemplative optimism: The acoustic-guitar laced love song "Hit and Miss" undulates like a watery embrace. The bass-driven "A Mile From Here" is an up-tempo track ready for clubs. Even the epic "An Ocean’s Measure of Sorrow" rocks, a fresh take on the piano ballad. "Everything Always Moving" sums up the album's hypnotic qualities and themes of hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars Original blend of musical styles, August 21, 2008
Listen to the previews above and you'll immediately hear that there is something interesting going on here. It is like trip hop with world music influences mixed with soft alternative rock. The music is usually mellow and layed back but it somehow "gets under your skin". Recommended for anyone who likes atmospheric soundscapes with unusual vocal melodies ('massive attack' anyone?).

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Find! , February 6, 2009
By Horse Meat Disco (New Orleans) - See all my reviews
This is one of those albums that I could have easily never heard. It was playing at a friend's house and I was really 'drawn into it.' This is a powerful emotional experience - an album that truly alters the mood of the listener and thus qualifying as great art. If asked to classify it by genre, I'd throw my hands in the air and call this lumbering, melancholic, cross-genre masterpiece "trip-rock." As a bonus, the production is top-notch, so listeners with a good system are in for a treat.
I've had it on rotation for days now, which rarely happens in this age of millions of abums literally at our fingertips. Great find!
