Fabulous Phone. Hard to Find Flaws!!,
By H. Mera (Houston, Texas) - See all my reviews I always carried a 7 megapixel Canon Powershot A620 camera. So, I was not looking for a higher megapixel camera with the cell phone. Surprisingly, the E70 comes with a one 2 megapixel camera that takes great pictures for a cell phone. This is convenient to take and email pics or send them SMS message to a friend or to the office. I wasn't looking for a PDA/Smart phone since I carried a Palm Z22. The E70 is so feature rich that the Palm Z22 is no comparison. I have since dumped the Palm Z22. It will be sold shortly on the internet. The E70 is a mini laptop in your hand. Using the Palm is like organizing your life on a cocktail napkin in comparson. I was worried the phone would be too large compared to the Razr, but, it is not. The phone is slightly larger than the closed Razr. The E70 and the Razr V3 are the same size when both are open. (See the photos) Surprisingly the usable display areas of the E70 and the Razr V3 are about the same. (See my photos). Motorola added a very wide black border around the Razr to give the illusion of a larger screen. Nice trick. The resolution of the E70 is so much higher that it puts the Razr V3 to shame. The handshake scene in the Nokia startup video will convince you. (See the my photos). See the pros/cons below. The best features are the connectivity to other devices and the internet. Connectivity is supported for both GSM (Cingular, T-mobile) and WCDMA/3G, EDGE and Wireless LAN. Provides high speed data transfers. Internet browsing is simple. I am too cheap to pay T-mobile double for internet connectivity compared to the price I pay for home DSL. So, I just connect thru wireless LAN when at home or in the public. Connection is fast. The web pages are easy to navigate. Itty bitty mini versions of the entire web page can be scrolled. You will get a low memory warning when too many web pages are open. Just close a couple and is right again. Easy to bookmark pages for faster returns. Infrared connectivity is included. I have not used it. Supposed to be able to operate projectors. Wish is could operate my TiVO. Bluetooth connectivity worked great with my Tekkeon headset and a Mac Powerbook G4 laptop. Have not tried connecting to PC with bluetooth, but, expect it to work without problems. The USB/PC cable and Nokia Suite software worked fine. Found it just as easy to copy/paste files by removing the miniSD card and connecting it directly to the computer. Download free software from Nokia.com (Worldmate, ZipManager, Adobe Reader, and Golf Pro Contest 2). Trial versions and purchases are available for download directly to the phone. Found a few faults. The chrome paint is chipping off the joystick after only 2weeks of use. There is a lack of support for standard headsets due to the nokia specific connector (See the photo). Also, no second camera on the display side of the phone to watch the monitor while in video calls. Could not get the Real Player program to play my mp4 videos. Not sure if I am using a compatible format. Still working on this. These are miniscule problems when compared to the features! Highly recommended phone.! Great phone, but needs some tweaking,
By I immediately purchased the e70 when it came out, as it is the next generation in this "flip out" style of Nokia phone. At first, everything seemed to be great. It is a little larger, but still managable. I wanted a phone that would fit in the pocket of my jeans and not have to wear it on a belt clip. This works fine with loose jeans. The flip out keyboard is very similiar to its predecessor, just a little larger. Very easy to use, and all the keys are back lit with the press of a button. The main functions I use, the calendar, reminders, to do list, and contacts are accessed in a slightly different way. However, you can still get to them very quickly. The operating system is more sophisticated, which slows it down a little over the basic OS of the previous versions; but not too bad. It synced via bluetooth to my compter without a hitch, which was great because I transferred all of my calendar appointments, tasks, and contacts in a few minutes. The bluetooth also paired with my car (Acura) the first time and has worked great. It has a 2 megapixel camera and voice recorder also. I haven't really used the camera or voice recorder yet, as I use my phone for business purposes. This phone is layed out perfectly and with the new memory card slot is a lot more capable of growing with my needs. There are too many other functions to list and it will take months to discover how I'd use them practically in my life. It is all great except... It's got a few bugs. The web browser worked great the first day, but since then it starts to load the first page and will freeze up right at the end. Sometimes it won't load at all. I looked around on some mesage boards and this seems to be a common problem. After you back out of the browser it requires a complete shut down, pull out/put in the battery, and restart to work properly again. Also, the contacts displays the names funky. Some of the names it is firstname, lastname and others it is lastname, firstname. When you go down the list it is confusing to find the name because they alternate sporadically. There are no settings to fix it. Again, I found on message boards this is a common bug. Hopefully Nokia will come out with a firmware update to fix the problems. Web browsing and finding contacts are two of the most imporant functions I have for the phone. As soon as they do, I'll rate it at 5 stars.
