Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

The Slumber Party Girls know what you're thinking: With their faces plastered all over Saturday morning TV, the Internet, and now CD sleeves, theirs had better be a stay-up-all-night, keep-the-Cheetos-coming kind of bash--no hogging the spotlight (or the popcorn bowl), no diva maneuvering, and, God forbid, no baby stuff. That their debut disc actually is all those things--a tight, friendly blast of pop-slicked hip-hop, R&B, dance, reggae, and rock shaped by five distinct just-this-side-of-post-pubescent personalities--seems a minor miracle. (Here, after all, is a girl group assembled by enough suits to fill a Brooks Brothers superstore.) Seven- to 12-years-olds, the under-served demographic this all-around likable outfit is shooting for, will be especially susceptible to the frothiest of these roundly whipped-up confections--the rock barnstormer "My Life" is tinged with a mild self-affirming rebelliousness (think Ashlee Simpson-lite); dance chugger "Good Times" trots out an invitation to get down that even the good-time progenitors Chic couldn't refuse; and "Countdown" wrestles R&B into teen-friendly territory with an insistence even old-school-loving grandpas will grudgingly admire. Little brothers everywhere, repair to your rooms: the party has begun, and there may be no stopping it. --Tammy La Gorce

Product Description

A healthy dose of sass and a pinch of allure, SPG are five diverse 15- and 16-year-old young women who seamlessly blend together to form a musical mélange on SPG -- The Slumber Party Girls - Dance Revolution, the group's Geffen Records debut.

Dance Revolution crosses all cultural boundaries with nods to hip-hop, R&B, rock, salsa, reggae, and, of course, irresistibly danceable pop - all with a positive message for America's youth set to a soundtrack of beats bound for boomin' systems everywhere.

Along with Dance Revolution, SPG also showcase their diverse talents on KOL's Secret Slumber Party on CBS, a collaboration between DIC, AOL's KOL kids site and CBS. In addition to hosting the block, SPG is the house band for the highly-anticipated dance competition series, "Dance Revolution!," which was inspired by the hit video game franchise from Konami.

SPG is the fruition if an exhaustive search across the U.S. - finding impressive talent with uplifting attitudes and burgeoning cuteness who can sing, dance, and act is no easy task - and SPG's five unique personalities reflect a diverse marriage culled from Los Angeles to Long Island. Co-producer and Chairman, Geffen Records, & President, A&M/Interscope Records Ron Fair, known for discovering such impressive songstresses like Christina Aguilera, and Stefanie Ridel (ex-Wild Orchid), seized the opportunity to work and grow with these five young ladies currently taking the entertainment world by storm. SPG's distinct mix of musical landscapes and dance-pop sensibility is the result of the following multi-ethnic slumber party.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even this old mom likes it!, November 11, 2006

I bought this album for my 11-year-old daughter, since she's been watching Dance Revolution on TV. I was VERY suprised that I liked the music, too! This is fun, danceable, sing-along stuff. The lyrics are OK for my 4-year-old, even, and the girls' voices are excellent. Each track is a little different, especially the Gloria Estefan-worthy "Salsa." I'm a cranky old mom and won't play Hip-Hop in the house, but I'll let the girls listen to this one whenever they want. As a matter of fact, I even put it on the other day while I cleaned house! It kept me moving, and I might even be learning the lyrics.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Pop Music For Tweens, October 25, 2006
Chances are if you watch Saturday morning television or hang out on the Internet you have heard about the new tween/teen group The Slumber Party Girls. Dance Revolution is their debut album. The girls make real innocent fun sugary pop music. The Slumber Party Girls call themselves SPG for short sometimes. The group is made up of five young girls of various backgrounds. It's safe enough that parents won't find anything objectionable in the lyrics and young listeners will want to dance to the songs. The lyrics are also simple enough that fans will easily be able to sing along to the catchy songs. Think about groups like 3LW or Raven back in the day. Slumber Party Girls are what's missing on the teen music scene. They are just regular girls all about having fun and making pop music with that R&B edge. Catchy songs on the album include "Bubblegum," "I Got Your Back," and "Summer's Gone." The beats are hot and the production is solid. Dance Revolution may easily prove to be the guilty pleasure of adult listeners as well. One thing for sure, young girls will fall in love with the Slumber Party Girls and their CD Dance Revolution.

The album was produced by legendary producer Ron Fair and was released by Geffen Records.
