Hogworts Potions years 1 and 2 just arrived today, and while my children (8-yr-old twins) ran around in circles whooping and hollering, I opened it and must say, I am very impressed. This is really a very educational toy, and the presentation makes it TREMENDOUSLY interesting to children - even hyper ones! It comes with a build-your-own Potions Book - front and back cover, and pages for years 1 & 2, as well as laces so you can bind your own book and add more pages as needed. It suggests that you record your observations of the experiments, so I printed off some old-looking backgrounds to add to the notebook. My daughter religiously recorded all observations during the experiment conducted in the included cauldron (we did Invisibility Crystals), and my mother popped into the kitchen at the end of the experiment. Even she said "Oooh!!" when it finished.
My children have toyed with some chemistry sets and lost all parts, but for this one, they cleared out a cubby on their bookshelf to place their Potions Notebook, their cauldron, pipettes, test tubes (with stoppers), chemicals, and wands. They now have their Potions Section, have written down all experiments on a piece of paper to check off as they do them. I haven't seen them so excited since Christmas - BEFORE they opened their presents! Buy this. I'm looking for more of these as soon as I click "send".
