Some were quite successful, but others were not so great. You can pay a lot of money to get a book proposal and manuscript ready for the market(sending out to editors,) or you can read this Short and get things right from the conceptual stage. The author, who has worked all sides of the publishing desk, thoroughly covers the main reasons editors reject manuscripts. Publishing is highly relational--and it is important to make the right impressions. If this stops you from committing a fatal flaw for your own manuscript, then it is well worth it.In these 22-pages he includes some bonuses: links to other resources to speed your success. Don't hesitate to purchase this Short. I highly recommend it before you send out that query, book proposal or manuscript. Actually, the advice (or shall I say point of view) offered by Mr. Whalin is priceless. I've been struggling with submissions to both publishing houses and literary agents for over a year now, and although I have sold my first novel without an agent, the struggle never ends. So, in order to have time for writing, rather than querying, I have decided to look for a literary agent. Not that I have made any of the mistakes Mr. Whalin mentions, but I have failed to include any and all of the things he recommends. Having a marketing plan is tough, finding a high profile endorsement seems even tougher. All the authors I admire are dead, and of the few new ones I truly enjoy, most are either unknown or protected by a barrier made of publicist, agents, unlisted contact info, etc. However, I have enjoyed Mr. Whalin's writing, learn some new points and thanks to this short, I have taken a hard look at my own query letter.
