Your purchase of the World Food Programme FEED bag feeds one child in school for one school year.

School feeding acts as a magnet, dramatically increasing enrollment, sometimes by as much as 100 percent, and also improves performance at school; children concentrate better on a full stomach.

Girls who go to school not only marry later, but have half as many children than illiterate women, and their children are healthier and better educated. School feeding is a simple but effective way to beat hunger and poverty and can help transform a child's life by providing the tools for self-reliance. The FEED Project is a partnership between the United Nations World Food Program and Lauren Bush, WFP Honorary Spokesperson.
.

Lauren Bush

Honorary Spokesperson for the UN World Food Programme

"FEED is a project I initiated to help fight child hunger. For the past 3 years I have been an Honorary Spokesperson for the UN World Food Program (WFP), which is the food-aid arm of the UN humanitarian forces.

Throughout my time as a volunteer, I have gotten to travel to 7 countries around the world (Guatemala, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Chad, Lesotho, Tanzania, and Honduras) that are all receiving food aid from WFP. The people I have met during my travels struggle each day to obtain one of the most basic human needs--food. It breaks my heart to think that every 5 seconds a child dies needlessly of hunger and malnutrition."

"But the most hopeful thing I have seen during my travels is WFP's school feeding program, where kids are given a lunch meal in school each day. This is incentive enough for kids to attend school when they might not normally, and the meal is nutritious enough for kids to stay healthy and engaged in their studies. It is truly inspiring to see kids, who are born into extreme poverty, in school eager to learn and improve their lives!" .
World Food Programme FEED Bag "The FEED bag is a sturdy, reversible bag made out of natural burlap and cotton materials. The design of the bag was inspired by the big bags of food that I have seen being distributed to schools around the world. Besides being a cool bag, it is a tangible way to make a difference in the fight against child hunger. Every FEED bag sold will feed a child for a whole year in school!
Thank you for your support of the FEED project! With your help we will be making a big difference in children's lives around the world, one child at a time. So wear your bag with pride!"

3.0 out of 5 stars GOOD IDEA YET MISLEADING, December 2, 2007
When I first saw this, I thought it was such a wonderful idea! I'm disappointed in the price though-when I received it, it stated that only $20.00 of my dollars would be going to the fund. Top it off, made in China. Where does the rest of the $$ go? It's better to give directly so that MORE OF YOUR DOLLARS GO WHERE THEY ARE DESPERATELY NEEDED!!

5.0 out of 5 stars FEEL LIKE A STAR!*****, May 12, 2007

When I read what Lauren Bush said, my immediate thought was that I could provide at least one hungry child with food for one year by purchasing this bag. I'm a senior citizen living on a fixed income. By lowering my food expenses $10 for six weeks I purchased this bag (free shipping from Amazon). I, now, use this bag to purchase my weekly groceries. Not only am I feeding one child for a year, I also am doing my small part for the environment by not using the plastic/paper containers.

Thank you! ...Ann Forster, Foxborough, MA

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, April 25, 2007
By Lost in MI (MI United States) - See all my reviews
I love this (tote) bag. Good quality, very sturdy. I like that it is reversible, it's like having two bags in one! The white side makes it look sporty and the other side it's for a more natural look. On the white side it has three pockets, one on the front (could store a magazine) and two on the sides (perfect for cell pone, keys, etc). I will take this bag with me to classes, travels, oh... and I guess it could even work for my knitting stuff! Add to all above that it's for a good cause... excellent!
