Being baby plants, sprouts are easily digestible and packed with nutrients including vitamins, minerals and proteins. Sprouts are a living food so even when they are in your fridge waiting to be eaten they are still slowly growing and gaining nutritional value unlike your wilting, full grown carrots in the veggie tray next door. Can be grown all year round. Minimal equipment needed. Growing sprouts yourself lessens your carbon footprint since no one is putting them in a truck and driving them 1000+ miles to your supermarket. Growing sprouts is a great project for kids to teach them where their food comes from while getting them excited about developing healthy eating habits. Some examples of commonly sprouted seeds are broccoli, alfalfa, red clover, lentils, onion, mustard and radish. Pick up ou
