With its HQV true 1080i to 1080p HD deinterlacing process, the BD-P1200 delivers the sharpest, most detailed HD images possible. There are no jagged edges with the per-pixel motion adaptive algorithm and a sophisitcated multi-directional diagonal filter. It doesn't get any better than this for viewing enjoyment. HQV’s true 1080p HD deinterlacing delivers the sharpest, most detailed HD images possible by employing per-pixel motion adaptive algorithms and a sophisticated multi-directional diagonal filter that ensures video without jagged edges. Setting the Movie Frame (24Fs) feature to ON allows you to adjust the Blu-ray player's HDMI output to 24 frames per second for improved picture quality. The powerful HQV processing engine also provides per-pixel motion adaptive noise-reduction, detail enhancement and advanced scaling delivering premium quality upconverted SD material.

HQV maximizes resolution and detail
For high definition material and allows standard definition to approach High definition. Maximizing Resolution: Converting standard-definition to high definition requires resizing/scaling the image up to 6 times. Converting 1080i interlaced to progressive: 480i/1080i video is broadcast as interlaced where each image contains half of the total picture information. The reconstruction of these half frames is called de-interlacing.

More capacity, more versatility!
Current dual layer Blu-ray discs can hold up to 50GB. That’s over 4 hours of HDTV programs, or up to 26 hours of standard definition TV. And thanks to the structure of Blu-ray discs, capacity is likely to increase two-fold in the future.

Complete Backwards Playback compatibility
In addition to playing high-definition BD discs, Samsung Blu-ray technology offers complete backward compatibility. You can still enjoy your current favorite CDs and DVDs, no matter the format. In fact, they look and sound better than ever before, because the BD-P1200 can take your current DVD library and upconvert it to a near high-definition experience via 720p/1080i and 1080p.

User-Friendly Graphic Interface
Samsung’s BD-P1200 BD Player includes various user interface menus & subtitle functions to allow consumers to easily discover and search for detailed content regarding the video. The full-color, high-definition animated menu and subtitle effects allow you to incorporate your own personal creative touch.

Easy Top Menu
With the easy top menu, you change the font & color of subtitles and menu titles as well as the background color and menu graphic-all to fit your individual style.

5.0 out of 5 stars GO TO THE MOVIES AT HOME!, August 2, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Samsung BD-P1200 Blu-ray Disc Player (Electronics)
I received this player yesterday. Connected it to my Samsung 42 inch Plasma 1080i with an HDMI and Fiber optic audio cable to my Yamaha sound system. It took maybe 20 minutes and what a result. Beautiful picture and like wise with the sound! I put Mel Gibson's Blu-ray version of Apocalypto in and enjoyed my home Theater! It seems as if you could walk into the scene.
I had no trouble with the start up or playing of the disk. I also tried two regular DVD's and they were upgraded on the Blu-ray player. So far I am very pleased with the operation and quality of the player. The price was very reasonable for a Blu-ray player on todays market.
It is one week later and I have ordered a second Samsung BD-P1200 for my 50 inch Vizio 1080i plasma. I hooked my first one one to it and what a difference! so now I have two movie theaters one in the bedroom and one in my living room. I think one big difference is the fiber optic audio cable and HDMI cable. I bought both from Amazon for the price of maybe half of one at best buy. I do not believe in those high dollar HDMI cables, that do the same job as the less expensive ones. Great picture and Great sound.
I have to address an item on a lot of reviews as to this unit will not have all the features of the next model. If you wait until they stop improving electronics you would never buy anything. They constantly are upgrading and improving everything. Did consumers wait for DVD's when VHS was popular? If you did you lost a lot of watching movies at home.
After having this player several months,I cannot believe the bad reviews! I bought two of them and so far no problems at all. They have played everything I put in them. Maybe It is my TV's or my luck but so far very good player. 11/21/2007

4.0 out of 5 stars Great player, but..., June 2, 2007
This review is from: Samsung BD-P1200 Blu-ray Disc Player (Electronics)
Samsung tech support needs to tell people that this machine requires the firmware update before it will work with all blu-ray disks. When I first got this machine, my blu-ray copies of "Casino Royale" and "Into the Blue" weren't working at all, and I was nearly 2 hours on the phone with tech support (mostly on hold) and they still weren't able to uncover this very easy solution. At first they tried to tell me there was something wrong with my brand-spanking new SAMSUNG 1080p LCD television..lol. Then they said that there was something wrong with my brand new HDMI cable...lol again. Finally, I had to figure it out on my own by reading the manual. Now it works great, the picture looks amazing, and it hasn't given me trouble since.

When and if you buy this player, make SURE you install the firmware update before you go through the hair-pulling afternoon of frustration I experienced. If it wasn't for the boneheads in tech support at Samsung, I would have given this awesome machine 5 stars rather than 4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Samsung BD-P1200 a Winner!, April 27, 2007
By baggani (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Samsung BD-P1200 Blu-ray Disc Player (Electronics)
Samsung's BD-P1200 second generation Blu-ray disc player is a far superior piece of hardware than its predecessor the BD-P1000 which I bought and gave a great review to last September. The new model is more compact and has a noticeably different front panel. Gone are the blue accent lighting on the controls for one blue light in the center of the panel which is less noticeable in a dark room. The player has a faster load time and it just seems sturdier. It doesn't have the glossy piano black finish all around like the first model, but in a console who's going to notice. The PQ is sharper. No doubt due to the HQV feature. Using HDMI, the image on my Samsung 40" LCD is stellar. The first model has come down in price, and many early adopters are starting to grab it at its new low price. I found that the two firmware upgrades on that model started to make it glitchy. Save yourself the headache and buy this new 2nd gen model. You will not be disappointed. You will dream in
blue.
