I migrated to Australia in 1976 and as a history graduate, became engrossed with Australia's past. I did research on its early days as a penal colony and after thirty years of doing this, decided to share my picture of these harsh times with other Australians and the world at large as a compelling tale that would both entertain and educate. I am Chinese, an outsider to the events that happened over two hundred years ago. I have no ties to the people who lived during those times, nor their descendants. I hope I have given an impartial historical account of Australia's history from 1793-1802, through the eyes of my protagonist, Kate O'Neal.
