Guns blazing, the Messerschmitt Bf-109 screams through the clouds toward you. Instinctively you barrel-roll out of the way, hot lead missing your Spitfire by millimeters. You bank right, flank him and open fire!

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't meet high expectations, July 28, 2009
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: WWII Aces (Video Game)
I really like the interface for this game. Like all Wii games, it's very intuitive and natural to use. The game action is more-or-less realistic, and there's a lot of content. The graphics won't win any prizes, but they're certainly adequate to the purpose. However...

You can only play as Russian, German, or British. Which means no P51 Mustang, F-4U Corsair, or other great US planes. There's a choice of 1 fighter, fighter-bomber, and bomber for each nationality. So a grand total of 9 planes, 6 of which are inappropriate for any given mission.

Also, the mission unlocking progression stymied me pretty early. One of the first missions is a multi-target night bombing run with heavy air to air defenses. Chances are I'll get bored of trying to get past this, and ditch the game without ever seeing most of the other missions.

And maybe I was expecting a little too much, but it's just not that much fun. Feels like work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent arcade shoot em up, January 3, 2009
By Chris Greenfield (Salisbury, England) - See all my reviews
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: WWII Aces (Video Game)
Take control of some of the best combat aircraft in WWII in this excellent arcade-style shoot em up. This is not a flight simulator, as the aircraft are relatively easy to fly and control. The trick is to keep your wits about you, fly like crazy, keep manoeuvring at all times, keep your eyes peeled, and keep shooting as enemy aircraft whizz past intent on shooting you down. With a general scenario that leads you through the war, you can take the sides of the Brits, Germans or Russians, which puts a different spin on things as you master one side and then switch to another. The odds tend to be stacked against you in the dogfights, but then that was what things were like for the Brits in the Battle of Britain! All in all, great fun, using the Wii controller to good effect!

2.0 out of 5 stars WWII Aces, July 9, 2009

Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: WWII Aces (Video Game)
By reading the reviews I thought this game would be a lot better. What you can do with the remote is amazing, but it's really hard to control. But controls are controls and for any game you eventually get used to them. The biggest issue with this game is the graphics. If you compare them to Blazing Angels, or Heat Seeker there not that great and it looks like you playing an old computer game. I would not recommend this to anybody.

2.0 out of 5 stars ww11 aces ?
I used the Blazing angles and compared to that there is no comparison. It's graphics are lame. If you can get it for $10.00 or so it just something to play with.

This game is really tough. I've logged a lot of hours playing it and I can't get through all of the missions in easy mode. 2 Player dogfights are great though. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars WWII Aces
Flying with the Wii is fun. The game settings can give you as much challange as you want. 2 player mode is the best. It is a fairly simplistic game but I like the flying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game ... but tough to win ...
No problems, but I end up being shot down on most missions, I can hold my own in Dogfight, but so far unable to sink the U-Boats, my fault not the game, I will get better if I can... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Very fun game
Fun but the only drawback is that some of the missions get very long and hard. So be prepared to do the intense dog fights.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Ok, but surely any pilot in WWII had to fight against too many planes at the same time
There must be better ways in the design of this game to put it hard to play instead of puting so many planes (like flys) against one which is not very real. Read more
