Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Born Lauren Keyana Palmer in Robbins, IL, a small town just outside Chicago, Keke showed vocal promise as a five-year-old when she belted out Jesus Loves Me in her church choir. As a young girl, she honed her vocal skills practicing in her singer/mother’s home recording studio. A lthough music was her passion, Keke’s first big break came via her 2004 screen acting debut in Barbershop 2: Back in Business, playing the part of Queen Latifah’s niece. It was immediately apparent that Keke had star potential, so the Palmer family decided to give her the best chance to pursue her career and relocate to California. I n 2006, Keke appeared as the lead character, Akeelah Anderson, in the critically acclaimed, award-winning film Akeelah and the Bee. Shortly thereafter, Keke appeared in Tyler Perry’s Medea’s Family Reunion, which was number #1 at the box office for two consecutive weeks. She next lit up the small screen with her starring role in the Disney Channel hit movie, Jump In! Shortly after Akeelah, Keke signed with Atlantic Records.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keke's new album is 'So Cool'!!!!!!!!, September 18, 2007
By R. Jackson (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was really never a Keke Palmer fan. But I was at Wal-Mart today, and realized that it is the 18th, the day "So Uncool" came out. I wanted it, but I wasn't sure about it...so I got the "Hairspray" soundtrack. I came home, and got on AOL Music, and luckily "So Uncool" was on there for the Listening Party. And as I was listening to it, her album is VERY good. Songs like "Keep It Movin'", "Rainbow", "Game Song", and more catch you, and make this album a hit for the young starlet. Know I am not exaderating when I say this album is clearly a hit. 'IT TRIUMPHS!' on it's on, and Keke is shinning on it. I've always liked her voice, and she sells it on this album. Make sure to pick up a copy of "So Uncool", because it would be an abomination if this PIECE OF AMAZING WORK was left getting dusty on the shelfs of your local retail.

Hot Tracks:
1. Keep It Movin'
2. Game Song
3. Music Box
4. First Crush
6. How Will I Know
8. Rainbow
9. Bottums Up

The album is a sure hit!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun & Cool, September 17, 2007
Fourteen-year-old Keke Palmer (née Lauren Palmer) had her breakout role as the title character in 2006's Akeelah and the Bee. She was nominated for numerous awards and was immediately added to the list of young talents to look out for. She made a song, "All My Girlz," for the soundtrack and only about a year later, she is here with her debut album.

The most important thing for a young artist to do while recording an album is to be aware of their audience, and Keke does this very well. She aims to mainly please the young girls and never strays away, with subject matter ranging from first crushes to being self-conscious to a boyfriend too obsessed with video games. Vocally, she is actually quite good. She remains laid-back and never oversings. Musically, the album is primarily composed of slickly-produced, upbeat contemporary R&B/pop infused tracks. "Keep It Movin'," the first single, is a cool and breezy summer jam that came out a month too late. "Music Box" is a touching ballad of how music blocks out the pain and problems of life. "Footwurkin'" is a thumpin' dance groove; the same applies to the crunk-alicious highlight track, "Bottoms Up," where she takes a stab at rapping. "Hood Anthem" tells kids to not be ashamed of where they came from. This closing track will have everyone singing along.

There are, of course, some lyrical missteps, the "crush" songs are a bit sappy and one or two songs just aren't all too compelling. Overall, though, So Uncool is a genuine and great album for kids and adults alike; the songs are catchy, relatable and the messages are age-appropriate.

4.0 out of 5 stars KeKe is VERY promising, November 17, 2007
This album is actually quite good, especially for having been made when she was only 13. This is coming from someone who is an average fan of music and the hip hop genre. I got this CD from iTunes after being surprisingly hooked on her single "Keep it Movin". Along with that song she has at least 3 other addictive songs and a couple more solid ones on this CD including "Bottoms Up", "Hood Anthem", "The Game Song", and "Footwurkin". KeKe Palmer was a solid actress in Akeelah and the Bee and I think that with some more mature material she could excel even further by continuing in music. However, my only complaint is that her material clashes in maturity. One of her songs on this CD is a rant about video games and the video game 'Madden', another one is about coming from and growing up in the hood. She is only 13 and has never set foot in high school and I think that some of her material is over-mature and some is a little under-mature, though the songs are catchy none-the-less. I think that in a couple more years her next CD will be very good.
